What if... you were offered a new 1M Coupe from a Dealer

So this might still happen. I've been looking for a clean e92WL M3, but this is almost impossible. They all have comments on the MP CIA report. I saw one today at Woodmead Auto - MP suspended due to over revving. So went to visit my friend at a well known dealership. Test drove a e90 330d and spoke to him about the 1M again. This might still happen. Apparently there is still one hidden away that he might be able to sell to me. So watch this space. And my 325i is now officially for sale. Will create a for sale thread early next week.

Not a BMW owner and have never purchased a BMW before.

Only new car I have ever bought is my Ford...

2 questions...

1. people seem surprised that the car is being offered at retail? doesnt retail mean...what its supposed to sell for new?

2. it was mentioned in a post that only certain dealers get to sell a 1M? So my money (retail of course) would be no good for a 1M at a "non-performing" dealer?

3. I find it stupid to pay above retail for a used car because of insurance risks, but how does one insure a new car for above retail?

ambroseg1 - Actually you asked 3 questions:
  1. yes
  2. Correct, but BS if you ask me. BMW forcing dealers to sell more cars by incentivising them to sell an 1M. Total BS. Sell sh!t loads of cars to have the opportunity to sell an 1M.
  3. New vehicles are always insured for the amount you've paid when new, including all exstras. Well that's how my insurance works.

Damn buddy go for it....

I would give up one of my rides anyday for a 1M , especially at the price you getting it.

LOL....sorry, at first wanted to only ask 2 questions then the 3rd popped up after giving the first two some thought :biglol:
another 3 questions about your 3 answers
1. So paying more than retail because of the limited edition-ness of a car is cool from a dealer? Sorry, but this sounds like a huge scam from dealers.
2. Not a question....just dumbstruck at this unethical practice. Cant believe prospective customers of BMW would stand for this type of practice.
3. Dont think you can insure a R200k car for R300k just because the dealer is trying to rip you off. Only if extras can be "loaded" (and not added to the vehicle in reality) to make it R300k. But if the extras can only amount to say R260k, I dont think there is any way to insure it for R300k.

  1. The dealership cannot sell the car for more than retail plus extras when new. Only once it is second hand can they adjust the price.
  2. The market determines if this is exceptable or not, unfortunately.
  3. You can insure your car for whatever amount is printed on the invoice when new.

+1. insurance companies know exactly what factory extras cost and what the retail price of new cars is. its on their systems.

Within reason of course. There is some ethics or at least rules to regulate ethics in the industry. Your insurer will question certain amounts if they look unreasonable.
