Eish! Must smell awesome too. If you don't mind my asking, how much did that set cost? I need to get myself one, the guy who I got the engine from 'forgot' to put the 2 centre gaskets back on. :screwy:

it was R430. Pretty darn stupid to forget to put the centers in, can you say ruined coils :hammerhead:

Oh, don't worry, he didn't include those either, or the wiring harness that goes with them, or the spark plugs that would usually fill the 6 holes that have been letting in dust for who-knows-how-long. Nice, huh? I hear coils are R800 a pop.

My spider senses tell me I made a bad purchase!

i hope you got that motor for a damn good price :mmm:

I did, but, I'm starting to think I've just bought a 328i crank to put in some other engine. :mmm: I'm gonna be doing a compression test soon to see if the engine is worth reviving, then I'll know!

Hows the e30 revival going Mayor? Looking forward to some awesome updates m8 :) :excited:

I'll update the blog soon, just been lazy. Car is pretty much completely stripped and ready for bodywork, just waiting for the shops to bring all their staff back so I can get it back ASAP with rust sections removed and new paint, and then preparing the 328i engine if the compression test checks out.

Tackled this job today, and it was surprisingly easier than I expected, taking me all of 1.5 hours to complete.

Here you can see that the inside of my engine is looking pretty clean

The cam lobes are literally mirror smooth.

Here you can see how bad the oil was leaking, the buildup here is on the heatsheild above the exhaust manifold.

Pretty clean cover inside, I have seen some horrible build up inside the vavle covers of some of the American guys cars. Glad mine looked so clean.

And here was the guilty party, a darn crack in the old gasket.

Well there we go, if anyone wants this done.... R500 plus the cost of the parts and I'll do it for you :sneaky:

It's making me seriously consider if the whole engine isn't worth it. Even if the compression numbers come back 100%, I'm worried about the bearings and cam lobes.

True, but you will have that risk with any junker that you buy.

I'll wait for the compression tests to come back, that would be your guiding factor.

I have an old screw in compression tester with a gauge

don, if your car's gasket leaked, then it would've not held a good enuf vacuum to idle properly.
did you notice any idling issues?
