What does losing MP mean?

Will BM service your car?
If so I suppose you pay for everything?
No warantee? Is that comprehensive or limited to specific aspects?

I suppose one can still have FSH - just pay through your nose for it?

It's a hypothetical question - for those considering risking it...

BMW will carry on servicing your car, but it will be for your account.

One interesting thing I just found out. When buying a used BMW that is still under MP, always ensure that the dealership (BMW or not) gives you a certificate stating that the car has been checked and meets the requirements of MP. In other words, any work carried out on the car is MP approved.

If you purchase a BMW and some repair work has been done on the car prior to you purchasing it, that is not approved by BMW, they can cancel your Motorplan even though its through no fault of your own.

If that is the case, welcome to the other side... I too like to live life dangerously.

But that being said, my e46 323i was actually very easy to maintain out of motorplan. Very cheap and only needed things changed every few years. Clutch lasted forever.

The M3 though, not so much... But I think my situation is a little different from everyone else.

But yes, when you are out of motorplan, you pay for everything, but you do get a warranty on the parts you pay for.

For BMW to sell and AUC (Approved Used Car) from a BMW dealership it HAS TO HAVE atleast 1 year or 25000km left of MP. You are 100% Correct that you will sign a MP registation certifiacte when you take delivery of your used BMW. This will state that the car has passed a quality check, millage check, roadworthy etc.

Losing MP does not necessarily mean you lose FSH if you don't service your car at a dealer.

You can still have FSH with other workshops, as long as the book is filled in and stamped etc.

Yep, you pay for everything, except for parts replaced and labour under a recall campaign issued by BMWSA.

My previous 2 BMWs where purchased without M/plan. On the last one, E92 325i At, the entire service expense bill I had accumulated during the 2years I had the car totalled about R10K, which I think is not bad. You obviously need to do a bit of homework before purchasing an out of MP vehicle, like checking out the service history of the car when it was on MP, also a good check over by a reputable BMW technician or dealer. However if something does go wrong, you will pay. Most dealers will sell you an aftermarket warranty or you can purchase one yourself which offers "some" piece of mind as well. These however only cover general breakage of the parts and not wear & tear, most of the time with a limit to the value of over cover per part eg. engine R30K, gearbox R15K etc.

What does loosing MP mean?

It means you throwing away money!

Remember part of the cost included in the purchase price of the vehicle is the 'value' of the motorplan.

Just means you pay out of your own pocket for service/maintenance 'twice' now....

+1
and losing M/Plan is different to not extended it. Also, your trade-in will take a knock, and it'll be very difficult to resell the vehicle because that peace-of-mind is no longer there for the buyer.

I'll have to put up with the measely 160kw for another 70000 km then.

Seriously though, the risks are too great - except maybe for the well heeled. Or those with contacts at the dealers.

I'm for a secret society - use the contact for a small fee.
