IMO : Most 'new' cars these days are just fugly

All the fancy curves and odd shapes looks to me like cellulite on
a pretty girl. Perhaps they are trying TOO hard to be good looking

E36/9 design is simple buts still pretty even by today's measure

totally agree
for me the car needs to "appear" happy/smilling
the current range of BMW's just look/styling is way too agressive

The last NA engines in the M range, were, to me, the last true M's! The NA engines pushed the envelope, the BMW engineers were making master pieces to create ultimate driving machines! The newer M's with forced induction are also epic cars, but to me they have lost a bit of that magical feel!

So much magic was lost that they have to play engine sounds to over a speaker. :roflol::roflol:

I agree on the N/A part. I understand the "need"/direction of the turbo era and that it has various advantages (low down torque, being one). But me I like a "true" car: some drives aids (cause lets be honestly it has saved many of us numerous times), natural sound (no fake stuff) & it must be more mechanical than electrical.

Interesting topic Max, I suppose there as many opinions as there are models of cars but my opinion is that a car is more than the sum total of it's parts . It is not just an engine ,coupled to gearbox with some nice rims .

If it was just that we would be driving a beige 97kw Camry with a beige interior and a smashing set of beige 20 inch rims :crazylaugh:
Instead precisely because we recognise that cars are so much more, and that they say much about our personalities and even aspirations is why we love ,cherish and sometimes even worship them (not always a good thing)

That being said what does a BMW mean to me ? With 3 of my BMWs in the repair shop at present and having driven exclusively Mercedes for the last 6 months I can do no better than to say that my BMWs put a smile on my face every time I drive them and are so superbly engineered and forgiving that it makes an idiot drive like Ayrton Senna . On the other hand my Mercs are more like a stern spinster grade 1 teacher ,with bun and spectacles, admonishing me on a daily basis that I will come to a sorry end if I do not slow down . I think that encapsulates BMW .....its a car built for driving enthusiasts not just drivers . God I miss my BMWs now (Plots assassination of his mechanic while cackling maniacally):cartel:

Having owned and driven just about every BMW from the 1976 BMW 3.0l to my current 340i and x3 i can honestly say that in my opinion they just keep getting better.
A month ago i was given the new 730d to drive for the weekend and i was astounded at what technology offers today.
Bmw is not for persons who just want to get from A to B.That is why most reps get another car to drive around in.
Bmw is for the conneseur who loves to drive and getting from A to B is not a chore but an event.Even with the roads not being what they should be i still love taking trips in my BMW's.If the road is unknown i will take the X3 3.0d but if the road is fair, out comes the F30.
If you have time look at the section at the back of a CAR magazine that has all the specs from performance to fuel economy.G/co is especially important and refers to emissions. The less the co the better for the environment.
I challenge you to find any other brand that has low emissions, fuel economy and performance like the BMW.

Really special cars BUT. . Not enjoying the fact that it is no longer the outright top performance brand(apart from supercars) it once was. Artificial sound and slapping M badges on many models and not just special ones is not the BMW way. So BMW has disappointed me in recent times. Value for money is questionable as resale is poor
