What does BMW mean to you?

There are so many views on this forum of what BMW is currently and some rather strong and opinionated views on what BMW should be. There are people that believe that the last true BMW was the E30 325 or E46 M3. Some people also think that the new modern BMW signifies the absolute pinnacle of what a BMW is.

Personally, I really like the older BMW's and the modern ones equally. I dont think the modern cars are any less ///M cars than the old ones and vice versa.

What do you think? (no right or wrong answers, lets just keep it clean)

Agreed, old or new, the ///M cars are still epic driving machines!

since the "bangle" designs came along, i didnt like any of the newer shapes/models until the f10 and f30 came along.

the f30 just looked the "part".. and will probably be something i would buy in future.

The last NA engines in the M range, were, to me, the last true M's! The NA engines pushed the envelope, the BMW engineers were making master pieces to create ultimate driving machines! The newer M's with forced induction are also epic cars, but to me they have lost a bit of that magical feel!

infact, there is a little truth to this.. but in a different way.
not long ago, a friend saw my car and commented on how shitty the reliability is on second hand beemers, and that i must be spending a crap load on it.

i nodded and said "yes, you're right.. i have spent alot. but your CVT corolla sounds like a vacuum cleaner." i believe that comment put the discussion to rest immediately.

A BMW is supposed to cater to the joy of driving first and foremost. The feel of the steering and chassis, the precise controls, the sound of the engine!

What I am reading about modern Ms is so disheartening. Simulated engine sound through car speakers? WTF? As far as I know only 4 pot Clios need to do that!

Interesting topic...

To me it doesn't really matter whether it's old or new, NA or forced induction, as long as I feel great behind the wheel and the car feels good to drive. That's the feeling I always get with a BMW and not with other brands. So... what does BMW mean to me? Loads of fun, enjoyment, sportiness, comfort, exhilaration, etc. all piled into a 'box' on wheels!

IMO : Most 'new' cars these days are just fugly

All the fancy curves and odd shapes looks to me like cellulite on
a pretty girl. Perhaps they are trying TOO hard to be good looking

E36/9 design is simple buts still pretty even by today's measure
