Fortunate to have beemers from first car.....did also have a '96 opel astra 200ie...the 16valve version. Very quick for a 2litre 4 cylinder vehicle. Used to comfortably drop the Honda civics, Toyota RSi and RXi's, etc
Dropped a few beemers (sad to say) as well....

Learned to drive in a Bimmer, then owned a mint '78 1600 VW Beetle as a student. When I got my first full time job I handed down the Beetle to my boet (who promptly wrecked it before getting his license) and bought a year old 2004 Opel Corsa Lite which I kept for about 3 years.

My first foray into performance cars came when I moved onto a better paying job and picked up my first new car, a 2008 Opel Corsa OPC which I only kept for about a year and half due to major issues with the earlier models. With the OPC gone I decided to give the VAG stable a go after learning how mod friendly their 2.0TFSI powered cars and I bought a low mileage 2007 Audi A3 2.0T DSG which gave me my first proper taste of car modding.

The A3, although a great sleeper with the mods, left me wanting something that looked the part like my OPC had and with its maint plan coming to end within a year (and knowing how problematic DSG boxes can be after a dealer sponsored R70k replacement) I traded it on another low mileage Audi, a 2010 S3 S-tronic. I loved owning this car and in all honesty I would not have sold it if it wasn't due to some nasty unresolvable brake issues that nearly led to an accident on Easter this year. The dealers couldn't (or wouldn't) find any issues with the brakes after months of fighting so I eventually gave up and sold it after just shy of a year and a half of ownership.

Disillusioned with my local VAG dealers I decided to look elsewhere for something similar, but still different enough to make the switch worthwhile. I wanted something that would respond to modding well since the bug had bitten properly, yet more rewarding to drive fast than the understeery (but safe feeling) Quattro Audi with it's fancy auto box. FWD was not an option due to wanting to push some big power so it had to be RWD and preferably manual due to my experiences with expensive auto box repairs. Countless hours of shopping around and reading forums led me to deciding between a 135i and 335i Coupe and after finding a mint one in CT I went with the 135i.
