What did you do on your car today?

I got a quote on fixing the oil leak on my E39. Now I am trying to decide if I want to spend the money or have a go at it myself. Getting the spares and fitting it would take me half a day but save about a grand. Decisions, decisions.

Always DIY. Don't see it as saving money but rather learning the car and having the satisfaction of fixing it yourself.

In other news, I didn't do a thing to my car today, except for having it washed. I decided to rather spend more time inside the car than under it.

That plan got screwed up as I twisted my ankle this afternoon. It hurts like hell and swollen beyond recognition, hopefully it's better in the morning else I have to go to the quack...

Oil leak where?

Oil filter housing. Not too difficult a job, but the alternator has to come off before you can that off. A bit of a nasty job, guaranteed to put your back out if you do with the car on ground level. The last time I did it I was stiff and sore for a couple of days afterwards. Ugh!

tested the traction control on the E39 tractor in the downpour this afternoon

Took a used set of E46 330i front and non-330i rear calipers, carriers and springs to get cleaned up at Virtual Sandblasting. Spent more than an hour there afterwards masking them so they're ready to be powder-coated, which will hopefully be finished tomorrow morning.

Once done I'll be able to run vented 325x25mm rotors at the front, 294x19mm in the back, as opposed to the stock vented 286x22 and 280x10 (not vented), all while still maintaing the stock E36 brake bias (although I have to work the pedal ~10% more than before).

Niiiiiiiiiiiiccccceeee. Will you be keeping the same brake booster etc? Or will that also have to be changed? Nice upgrade

I'll see how the car feels once everything is fitted and run-in. I've got better pads and fluid at the same time, and with larger rotors I may not even notice. If not, upgrade to M3 master cylinder.

Ok not quite today, but finally remembered to take a photo of the LED AEs. Not really blown away by the result. Pretty much the same as on my 6-er. The yellow ones you could see during the day but the white ones you can only see when its kinda cloudy. Either way...not much more to be done about it other than replacing the LM with an LM2.

I finally decided to change the fog bulbs from the standard yellowish look to the white light look to compliment the angel eyes and xenons

What bulbs did u use? I have HIDs in my headlights but I'd like to change them to standard fitment bulbs.

Finally managed to fit these last night, here's the before and after on the fronts! Going to give the new pads a week or two to bed-in before I make any judgements. The front calipers are so close to these Contours that it's lightly scraping the wheel balancing weights.
