What could cause the smoke ?

Guys

You that have diesel BMW's. When you punch the accelerator your car will spew a little smoke which I think is normal. A friend of mine has a 2001 E46 320d manual and has noticed that this smoke is becoming more and more.

What could be the cause ? Injectors ? Turbo ? What could be done to remedy this ?

Thanx

It could just be that he has a heavy foot. :dunno:

If it was an old Isuzu, the diesel pump needed to be adjusted, with modern day diesels it could be anything you have already mentioned.

Is there any degradation in performance?

Kobus,

I can recall my Father telling me - after seeing a truck piling out black smoke, that its either the diesel filters or air filters that cause it to emit so much smoke.

Could be the first point of checking.

Funny

He drives fairly conservative with the occasional heavy foot. I'll find out about the color of the smoke tho. The car is still n very good condition and gets serviced on each interval it's supposed to.

Ask him if the oil seperator has ever been changed and if not, i suggest he replace the oil seperator with the improved version (not the loo type) and see if there is any improvement (less smoke)
