Hi Gents

What engine coolant should in use on my N54. The water pump and thermostat will be replaced soon.

I know it should be a mix of 50% distilled water and 50% coolant.

Just need to know if there is a specific spec of coolant.

I bought my waterpump & thermostat plus my coolant from Goldwagen. Just ensure it is made up 50/50

the bilstein coolant from Goldwagen seems to be good. been using it for the last 60,000km's. just mix 50/50 before filling

Thanks beemerman for the info. :praise:

I have read it but have to say that the bmw's are working on an idle, full throttle and cruising temperature thing (if I recall correctly which is set at certain temperatures.) By manipulating this via changing from the recommended 50/50 ratio to the advised 20/80 ratio you will lower the temperature (possibly) inside the engine and thus will make the temperature sensor sense that the coolant is too cold and keep the car rich in fuel (like what it does during cold start) and waste fuel. Dont you think so?

How many liters coolant will i need guys?

it depends, but i remember getting 5l coolant when i did a full radiator and block drain. when mixed with water.. its about 9l till full (i think)

p.s you will spill a bit when doing the bleed.. but i think 5l should be fine

I bought 3 liter coolant and 3 liter RO Water (which is free where I worked ) and still have about 500ml left over for top up

Seeing that BMWs cooling systems are generally weak, I personally wouldn't use any other coolant than the premixed one from BMW :cartel:
