What can I do to get a little more power?

Hi

After saving up for 3 months to have my car serviced at the stealers, I had the 84 000km service done at Worcester BMW for R5012-00.
That was, according to them a major service, all the filters changed, oil and a brake fluid change.
I was complaining about my gearbox, sounded like a clutch slipping when pulling away from a stop.
Told me that my car needed a software upgrade, (everything, not just the gearbox) because the previous owner drived it "lazy", I gave them the go ahead at R850-00.

My car feels totally different now, gear changes are smooth, and I'm quite happy.

Now, my next target for saving up, what can I do to have a little more power, I read about swirl flap removal and stuff like that, but don't really understand, or software?

Oh, its a 320d M sport auto, 2008-model, pre-LCI with N47 130kw engine.

More or less what can I expect to pay for that, and how many kw/nm will I gain?
(Sorry for this stupid questions, but I'm clueless when it comes to this ha ha)

You car is out of plan if it's hurting the pocket service it elsewhere? But I suppose there are no independant BMW specialists in Worcester. That service sounds damn expensive... and from their description that the previous owners were driving the car "lazily" you could have just reset the adaptions manually and not paid for the R850 SW update.

All the tuners have their own prices. Promotec charge R5000 for a remap. And then a DP you are looking at anywhere between R800 and R1500 for a custom one. You're probably looking at about 170 - 180kw and a shit load of torque my guess is 450nm. But PM one of the tuners. Go to the advertisers section and you can find them.

Just an opinion here, rather buy the parts from the stealers and have an independent workshop do the servicing for you, R5012 is excessive

Since you've got the software update done, you should consider removing the DPF and replacing with a Down-pipe, followed by a software remap

The down-pipe will cost in the region of R1500 and remaps range from R3K-R5K for the 320d

You're looking at an approximate gain of 35kw and 80nm

Wow, okay, so for say max R8k I can get my 320d 160kw/430nm?

If that's the price, I'll save every sent I make in the next 3months.

That sounds to good to be true?

Correct, it's true and safe to have done as long as you take it to the right places

Not that figures wont be the same for every car, best way to see your gains is to do a dyno before and after then you can see what exactly your gains are

Provided your tuner knows what he's doing, the car will be reliable

There's lots of us on the forum that have done these mods with no problems

Reading all of this, I'm temted to use my overdraft haha.
FNB must just wait a while then.

Who in Cape Town surroundings are the best to use for this? And at the best prices?
And the most reliable?
Thinking strongly about doing this VERY soon ha ha

Lets not get into a tuner war please. Just pm the various tuners and see what they can offer you. And make a decision for yourself.

I chose promotec and haven't regretted it. Whatever you have you will be happy.

I'll try and get in touch with Promotec immediately, can someone just tell me if they're in Cape Town as well?

3 months to save up for a 5k service?
Perhaps you should find a cheaper independant to look after your car first, before jumping into the modding game
CT has a number of reputable independants you could use.

I'm of the thought that modding puts added strain, so if there are any bits on their way out, they will just go sooner.
If cash is tight, you should think twice. Perhaps save up for a 330d instead.
And get an indie to service your vehicle.

In a way I was just kidding about the saving 3 months for the service guys, I did buy 4 brand new style 194 rims from the agents at R6k as well in Nov.

So what I meant, to spend R11k in 3 months on my car, on not so nessasary stuff, is quite hectic.

Will definately go indie with the next service :)

If its a worry find a good aftermarket warranty to cover items like turbos etc.

Rolf the owner of promotec is in cape town yes.

And while that's true Photokid, this is why we do supporting mods like DP etc.

Rolf PM'ed me his cell nr. Going to call him during the week.

I have a good aftermarket warranty on my car, and I'm anyway not the type that drive the shit out of my car, just want to show this laaities with the old Mazda 323 2.0 16v and Golf's with the cone filters a thing or two, as NOBODY in our small town believes that a tractor can kick their asses :aha, just a bit afraid to take them on when my car is std lol

Bud just check with whoever it is that you have the warrenty with what their position on your doing SW on the car is... Last thing you want to happen is something to go and they come back at you with "Sorry we didnt know you modified the car, we wont cover this"
