The 2JZ already exists. Wonder why they used the N54. Looks interesting though, wonder if it could even come close to the 2JZ. I have my doubts.:YesNo:

i've been prowling youtube quite a lot lately regarding single turbo N54's and following a few threads in depth. and it seems with a bit of work the N54 is capable of making some serious power. the main issue on the N54 is fueling. once the fueling system and injectors are upgraded some of these cars are making 800+ rwhp on a stock block.

there is one particular guy i followed on youtube that makes around 8xx rwhp on high boost map. the acceleration of that thing is mental.

i started looking into bolt-on kits from borg warner and precision as a replacement when my turbos do decide to fail. (started getting the infamous rattle :( )

I heard the next Z4 and Supra are going to be developed together. BMW/Toyota colab, like how Toyota/Subaru colab gave us the GT86 and BRZ.

I think its gonna be pretty damn cool.

N54 makes good power but will never be the level of the 2JZ with an open deck block.

2JZ can make 500wkw without breaking a sweat on stock internals all day every day..

I agree.

But there is a N54 in the USA pushing 900hp plus.

MMP has also developed a closed deck block that is in testing at the moment.

The Supra has had more than a 25 year head start in the aftermarket world for the development of performance upgrades.

The N54 will get there eventually.

Looks like the road to more power from x40 is going to be easier with closed deck blocks and balancer shafts:

New B58 (This pic is of an S55 but shares the design)

I think the in-cylinder temps will be much cooler with the N54 due to the open deck. Thus less chances of knock when using high boost.

I don't know of any block failures on the N54 yet, but I might be wrong.

It's a matter of time before guys start getting crazy power out of the B58 unit.

I've had open/semi closed/fully closed on one platform (non BMW) known for its cooling issues in the past and cooling was not the issue I expected it to be. Fuel dependent as well I guess. My experience might not completely apply to the BMW platforms though. The fully closed block is still in a track car that takes a lot of abuse. My semi closed block is still in the car as I sold it.

There have been some failures but thats because of bent rods
