what about the cars and girlfriends you have shared your life with?

Well often guys get into this topic over a beer or at a braai. We tend to get all nostalgic about cars we have owned often we remember more about them than the girlfriends we have gone out with.

Take for instance, my first car it was only a Peugeot 409 I can still remember everything about it even. What it smelt like, (not that good) but ask me about my first girl-friend and I need to think a while to even remember her name.

Well maybe it isn't quite like that for you, but I must say like the cars in my life there have been quite a variety and numerous ladies and some not so lady like and I have now been happily married for 14 years to the same 3.0CSL,,, ,,, I mean lovely woman, so maybe she makes all those that came before her pale by comparison, but it isn't that way with my cars.

Trust me when I tell you I can rattle off the list of every car in detail in chronological order but get pretty stuck on girlfriends by about the third one.
Why is it like this I don't know. That's not to say their weren't any really special woman in my life or stunning lookers for that matter, its just that I remember the the cars perfectly while only a few of the past girlfriends come to mind and not for any particular reason, maybe the ones that stick in my memory were a pain in the "donkey". While it just isn't like that with cars. I remember them all the good and the bad and the list goes like this:
Silver Peugeot 409 - got me from A to B and never let me down
Mazda 323 - Could really fit a surprising amount of beers in the boot
MGB - Crossed the country with me many times and even when a piston disintegrated 100km from arriving back home it got be back
Mazda RX7 - the girls like it and it road like stink couldn't follow a Porsche through the Harrow Rd off ramp I found out unfortunately.
VW 16V Golf (2) GTI 1800 - First out of the box purchase most disappointing and unreliable
Custom self built Porsche Speedster Kit car with 2.5L Oetinger Engine kicked every things "donkey" including superbikes but woman hated the wind in their hair
Toyota Corolla 1300 ... A to B..
Toyota Corolla 1600 (company car) also A to B..
VW Combi Pannel Van 1800 (DJ Wagon) Don't come a knocking.. say no more
BMW 3.0 CSL (I still own) My real first love and still in love
Isuzu Bakkie 2800 TD (company car) Don't go there just don't!
Yamaha V-Max (not a car but I thought I would be honest and not omit it) Great in a straight line not so good on Franchoek drive
BMW B10 Alpina (E34) - Every one thought it was a five series and no one knew who Alpina is
Porsche 928 S4 - What can I say the ugliest most wonderfull car I ever had. Should never have sold it
Shamrock AC Cobra 350 V8 - much like V-max! Oh with the wind in hair problem too
Landrover V8 Defender - Awesome offroad but I only went 4x4ing once
BMW 850i M spec- Sexy sultry and expensive to service
Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 RST - I enjoyed it, it enjoyed petrol too much
Chevy Scotsdale V8 Diesel Bakkie - Trusty old friend was there through the hard times
Yamaha MT-01 - My week end escape sounds meaner than a couple of cougars in a barrel, nimble as a ballerina looks like your Tattooed Sea Dog uncle Jack (Still have it)
BMW 740i Schnitzer Spec - My favourite piece of luxury and after some cosmetics and techno tweak, sounds like mean on Red Bull and looks like Maserati wished it did.
BMW E34 M5 - What can I say Iconic. Drove like a dream for the three hours after I picked it up in Gauteng and headed back to Cape Town. That was before I dropped a valve and am still looking for a head. (Cylinder head that is, I still have my beard rack on)

Now for the list of woman:
Ummmm!
OK Linda yes that was the first, no wait technically it was Jillian from when I was in Grade one But I thought I would rather start from about the time I started driving cars to be fair.
OK so it was Linda
Then it waaaasss uummm OK Kathy thats it Kathy
No wait it was Tracy one before Kathy
annnnnd thennn ummm ...
'''ummmmmmm ummm Sally thats it Sally
Then Rosanna She stood out (She thought I looked like Micky Rourke, when he was younger of course)
And then Nikki and she agreed with Rosanna when Rosanna unexpectedly handed me to Nikki who happenned to be sitting at the next table to us at a fashion show.
OK maybe I need to explain something right about now. I was a night club DJ and woman liked the dude with the headset at that time...
any way it gets a bit hazier as I went into the SADF for my mandatory two year sentence. No there were girlfriends during those two years I managed to organise quite a bit of detached duty and always seemed to make Formula grandPrix breakfast Sundays, its just that I discovered woman like the uniform just as much if not more than the DJ thing and so it was that my friends began to complain that I seemed to arrive with a different girlfriend to every Grand Prix Breakfast and they battled to keep track of the names. What can I say it was difficult for me too.

Now just before you start to think that I was some kind of male slut or that I was a terrible womaniser these ladies all had a great time and I didn't break any hearts or lie to any of them. That said none well almost none of them are on my Facebook Friend list but that has more to do with jealous husbands than them not wanting to know me. ( I mean they are all now married and their... ...wait why am I explaining this I thought we were talking about cars.

Well any way the list ends with
Tracy
Then a couple of one night stands
and then I fell in love over the telephone and am now happily married for 14 years.
Over the phone?
Ok let me explain I saved her from a father and son tag team in a night club we exchanged numbers and for the next four months only ever talked over the phone until the night of her 26th Birthday when I arrived unexpectedly at BabaLoos and was the only person who new or wished her happy birthday. I then arranged our first date and the rest is history.

Ok so you see what I mean the car list is neat clean full of variety some lookers there and some not so lookers.

So what do I have to say about the cars and girlfriends in my life I fell in love with one woman and love one motor Brand BMW

So what about you? Do you have any great stories about your relationships with cars and girls let us know...

I had a 316i e36... Detox we called her. Slow as hell but when you're 18 and need a lift from party A to Party B, anything will do. Seriously tho, she was a great car. Got me to classes and back. Loved her.

Then came Silver Fox... my first e46. 323i. Had her for 8 years. Ended up supercharging her and doing massive custom mods. She stood out and was then renamed Silver Wolf. http://e46silverwolf.tumblr.com/

Then came Jezebel. My first ///M car. The legend. Supercharger moved from the 323i and destined for Jezebel. Boosted M3.

ok.. Onto the women.

Well, since Jezebel, I lost count and can't recall their names... Too many Stukkies in the boot.

early 80's ....no car.....Suzuki TS185 scrambler
on and off between Avril and Colleen...but nothing too serious

"appy's" coudn't really afford a car, but in 1984 I experimented with a white VW beetle....it let me down so much within the first week, that I didn't even go thru with the sale, and reverted back to my trusty motorbike.

Then the old Suzuki TS185 had to make way for something more reliable, and replaced with a Honda 550 Four Supersport.

A move to Pretoria made me lose contact with Avril and Colleen, then the "appy" days were over, and my first car, a 1972 Mercedes Benz 230/6, pea-soup green....maybe I strived too soon for a "status" symbol, as this piece of junk dropped valves, burnt out the torque convertor and ran on 5 cylinders more and more, number 6 piston was getting a free ride...the Honda 550 dropped its cam chain, and the damage to the engine was terminal........so yet again another motorbike..a Yamaha XS1.1G...now this was a nice bike, the Merc just stood gathering dust..Karen came onto the scene, and so did Roswitta, Roswitta actually frightened me with her pushy-ness....she would arrive every evening at my flat with a scene out of the movie "Cable-Guy"...I started to pretend I wasn't home, to hope she would stop knocking and knocking...frightening stuff.

In preparation for leaving Gauteng for the Eastern Cape, I sold the motorbike and the piece of scrap Merc, and bought a Cheverolet Commodore 3.8L..and so the great trek to Port Alfred, and away from these Psycho women chasing me.

4 years at Port Alfred were essentailly woman free, and the Chev Commodore made way for a VW Kombi (Ford 3.0 V6 conversion)...a 3 month move to East London, and then the great trek back to Gauteng again.

Once in Gauteng, new circle of friends again, Kathy was a regular, but as I moved jobs yet again, so yet a new set of friends again, The VW Kombi ripped a gear tooth on the Pinion gear in the gearbox, and started to smoke worse than a tired 2 stroke weed-eater, and so before I spent any more $$$ on it I went for my first BMW, a 1 year old E36 325i. (glacier-blue)
My move out of a rented flat to my own townhouse, Kathy stayed behind and I lost contact, then Chrystel for a short while, and then Sarah....Sarah proposed, and we stayed together for 7 years
Sarah had a company car, an Opel Station-wagon 160, when she quit her job, to more of a "mom" to her children I bought her a Black VW beetle, but the VW was far too unreliable for a mom's taxi, so she inherited my E36 325i and I traded the VW on a white BMW E32 730i.

I had also started to itch after a motorbike again, and bought a 1982 Honda GL1100 Goldwing "for fun"

After 7 years, the relationship had turned sour, so she packed her bags and left.
I now traded both E32-730i and E36-325i for a much more modern BMW E39 530d and this is still my daily drive.
I had in the mean time, whilst still with Sarah, also inherited her parents, who were living in my granny flat, the "old" man was an amputee on a government disability pension...ie NO MONEY at all, so I bought another car for his use, a BMW E28-520i, for short trips to the shops and to the clinic etc, but his heart threw a valve 3 years ago (RIP)...and so the E28 was full of painfull memories, and it was traded for my now second daily drive, a BMW E38-740i.

Cindy, the youngest sister of Sarah and the "old-folks" in my granny flat now lives with me, for the past 7 years...but until now I haven't made the mistake of getting little "pink-feet" or getting a certificate that "Binds" me to a woman, so essentially I am still a bachelor.

I used to be very busy in between the 8 cars I have owned.
96 Conquest
99 Sentra
06 Focus
99 Corsa
06 323i E90
99 Sabre
10 Mazda 3
10 320d E90

In fear of my wife reading this I rather not talk about the girls, Dont remember half their names anyway :fencelook:

Ownership History:

2006 BMW 118i - Her name was Lara. Good car, but lots of problems. Thankfully motorplan took care of it. Drove her for the better part of 4 years ;-)

2004 Jaguar S-Type 3L V6 - She had no name, but was a beasty. Lovely ride, great comfort but a b!tch to maintain.

2004 Mercedes E320 Avantgarde - 15 months of carefree motoring. What a pleasure to drive, and she came with all the bells and whistles which has now set the standard. Dispelled the myth about Mercedes maintenance cost. Her name was Vici.

1997 BMW 540i - Back to the world of BMW after 4 years. Bought her cash for a bargain, but she had too much work to be done, and so I sold her. She was the reason for bringing me to this forum.

Current:
2005 BMW 645ci Vert - My precious! What a machine, and once again set the standard as I can't imagine driving anything other than a cabriolet in the future. I will replace her in a year or two with either a 650i vert or even better...an M6 vert, but for now I am more than content. Her name is Eve.

Since I was never a real player with the ladies, I suspect my car history is a bit more interesting. Had only 2 girlfriends, and married the second one, and we will be married for 24 years this June.

Vehicles:
Yamaha RZ50 in matric, made me feel like I'm invincible, untill I crashed it and was unable to attend school for 3 weeks........
Mini 850 (rolled it on the day we received our matric results..., too much champagne, not enough common sense)
Volkswagen Golf 1 1500 GL (Drove it into the Hartbeespoort dam while on a fishing trip with more beer than brains, sold it soon afterwards, after spending 4 appy paychecks to fix it)
Suzuki RD350 scrambler (sold after eating dirt in town when a motorist skipped a robot)
Ford Escort XR3
Mini 1275GT with 1400 bored engine, full race cam and side draughts
Mini Panelvan 1275 with "tuned" engine. Dropped many a GTi Golf between robots in my time.
Fiat 131 Mirafiori 1600
Volkswagen Golf 1 GTX
Volkswagen Golf Jumbo GTS
Fiat Uno 1100
Renault R8 with full race 16TS motor, sold because it was dangerously fast
Renault 4CV 1953 with suicide doors
Nissan Sabre GXi 2 litre
Volkswagen Jumbo 1800 GTi
Ford Bantam 1300
Volkswagen Polo Playa 1.6
Fiat Uno 1100 bought for R 1 000.00 due to front end smash, fixed for R 1 500.00 and sold for R 7 000.00
Volkswagen Caddy 1.8
Volkswagen CitiGolf 1400
Opel Corsa Lite 1.4, got it for free from a friend who couldn't get it started and just plugged in the coilpack plug, car was running like a charm
BMW E46 318i 2000 (Still have it)
BMW E46 318i 2000 (Busy converting to Lexus V8)
BMW E46 320d 2005 (Daily driver and alround excellent vehicle)

yup Andy, insufficient stability, insufficient routine, too many long moves, too many days and nights away from home, causes your faithfull women to start a wandering, whilst you slog it off to bring home the finest bacon.
