Hey!

I am new here, I have always read stuff on this forum, some very honest advice and finally I have joined.

My love for BMW started when I was a little kid and the 2 e30s in the garage were a 318i and a 325iS Evo I - low flying was the order of the day for our trips to the coast..

My latest daily drive is a F30 320d Auto, some pics from FB

The ex was my birthday present to myself and the first BM on my name, sadly I had to dump her due to a horrible clutch issue which I could no longer stand:

Thanks all, I am really enjoying the 320d - more than enough grunt for the daily run, my e90 320i was a deadbeat, nice car but painfully slow..

No real complaints besides one: I managed to kill the iDrive system.. I ran a 32GB flash drive with quite a lot of music on it and it successfully indexed the drive and I could start playing songs but as soon as you try and do anything else which needs some internal memory (this is my assumption) like searching or making a phone call the entire system freezes and resets itself.. My e90 didn't have iDrive and I never picked this up as an issue on it.

Is my assumption correct or is there a fault in my iDrive system?

Welcome man.

Sho...someone was giving those clutches some hiding...

Very nice car...I'm looking at the e90 320d m sport or the 120d F20 range...i like the new interior over the e90...but the e90's goes at good prices....never ending dire straits lol :fencelook:

Thanks a lot!

I blame the horrible traffic, I did the JHB<-->PTA run in my e90 in peak hours and that killed it each time. When they finally replaced the warped flywheel on my M-Sport the service consultant admitted that the 320i had known clutch issues.. seeing that the Excl we had also suffered the same fate.. The funny thing is I was dropped off at work in one of the new F30 320i manuals recently while mine had minor issues attended to and low and behold this things clutch started to misbehave too.. I am now very weary of the 3 series manual, hence I bought an auto.

I like the F20 have a 118i manual in the garage too and it's very different to the F30 and the e90 in terms of ride. Feels like a go-cart but still very well planted in the corners.

My experience thus far: the e90 felt very heavy to me, perhaps cause I had a 320i and it was slow but the F30 is very light footed and more tail happy but I suppose that's due to the torque from the tractor engine..

But yes.. the e90 M-Sport still looks so hot we see a lot of them on the road and prices are good..

O and wow on the Supra... What a car, I still want a weekend toy!!

The 2011 e90 320d m-sport steptronic (with paddle shifts) is in the same price range as the F20 120d urban line that I'm looking at.

Which would you prefer? As a daily..?

I have to agree with Twinz on this one..

I would take the 120d as a daily drive, mechanically the F20 is a brilliant car! It feels better planted than the e87 did and it's way better equipped if you take the right packages with it.

Comparing a 1er to the 3 is always difficult but the fact that the F20 is the newer model I would prefer it. Good luck with your choice!

Yup both the e90s suffered the same fate and in all honesty I did try and take care of mine.. Drove with the handbrake, foot off the clutch, kept it in neutral.. But the car was totally undrivable; BMW on call's official help was: 'pull over and wait for it to cool down'.. ya right.. so I got rid of her @ 98000kms.. Loved that car though!

More pics of the F30, always wanted Black Sapphire! but that + the Veneto beige interior is a maintenance nightmare...
