Hi,
I'm driving a '96 323i. Lovely clean car, with 333k on the clock :thumb:. Recently the engine started cutting out and at times it would not start :bawling:. Last week it cut out and I had it towed in to BMW agents. Their diagnosis was the VANOS being mechanically stuck. They could replace that at a cost of R10k :dropjaw:. A slight hefty, so I opted for a second opinion. The diagnosis was a faulty fuel pump, which was replaced for R2k . The car ran smooth for 4 days and cut out again. No luck in getting it started. Could the VANOS cause this or is there something else that is causing this, which can not be detected by the computer.:dunno:
