Hey guys,

I'm a 25 yr old animator in the commercial sector. I live with my girlfriend of over 6 yrs and she loves good cars too. I work my arse off and many late nights, and the time has come to reward my hard work by getting a bimmer to drive home after the late nights.

I have a few questions and as I'm new to the forum, am not quite sure where to post them yet. I basically want to know the following:

I'm looking in the just <R200K range, potentiall up to just over 200K - might stretch myself if it's worth it.

1. I want to know what the opinions are on a 2004 330i (especially the individual), vs maybe a e90 325i. The diference in power isn't much, 24kw I believe, but I know the newer one is more gadgety. Never sure if that's a good thing. Which is best to drive. I drove the e46 330i and loved it. Felt so at home.

2. Secondly, If I hold out quite a while longer, I could look at a 2006 330i - 200kw. Is this worth the excessive amounts more, or will I probably be as happy with an e46 330i?

3. How are the e46 330i's at about 120 000 kms. It's higher than I thought I would find but I can't find any nice sub 100 000km 330i's, and I'm getting tired of waiting.

My ideal would be a 330i individual manual, the e46 in that 'baby poop' yellow(almost like Phoenix gelb) and a sunroof, second would be that bronze silvery colour with a tint of salmon on the edges(very rare), or a variation of blue. They're all so beautiful. I do love almost any colour on this car though.

If someone can help me out with the names to those colours that would be great - I've been googling my butt off but to no end - my internet's pretty slow too.

ps. Great job on this forum guys, I've been a reader for a few days now and I can definitely say this is a community that I would be proud to be part of. A big screw you to everyone who believes that bmws are cars driven exclusively by idiots and posers, neither of which know how to indicate. We all know these people are moving over to Audi's and french cars =;), and BMW are now the car for the driving enthusiasts who can't afford supercars - and even some who can.

Glad to be here

Well, the E90 is heavier than the E46. So the 24kw will actually be more per ton. I think you should test drive both cars and then decide. I personally would go for the E46 as I think it's one of the prettiest BMW's ever made. But that's just me

ps. That little .gif at the bottom of your post with the '86 corrola and the animated drifting - where is that from? It looks really cool

 330i individual 6spd is my unicorn, absolutely STUNNING cars :)

You are going to take a much smaller knock on the e46 wrt resale etc. Its also a much more exclusive car than a base 330i e90

My e46 320i is on 128k now and doesnt miss a beat, I only wish she was a 330i, but shhhh dont tell her that I said that.

Pheonix Yellow, and the other one that I dont know the name of

It's from a movie called Initial D. Not sure what it's about specifically. I found it randomly on the net and some guy on the E30Tech forums mentioned that it's from that movie.

Welcome dude.

Do not discount the 330d's as well, with a chip of course, I know I am going to get some arguments here on the "tractors", but you get addicted to that torque, and there is the added fuel consumption score there as well.

However, turbo's fail if not cared for properly (and even then), so if your looking for one that has less maintance, probably a petrol motor may be the way to go.

Sheesh,

I've been on this forum for about 5 hours and already you guys have helped me out. OK, think I'm leaning much more towards the e46. Now the hunt for the right one continues. The exclusivity is one of the main attractors I must say. It does also seem like the 'cooler' choice, as the e90 is the 'obvious' choice. The e46 has more attitude.

Thank you all.

Zaleonadz, I here the 330d is awesome, but I must say the longer rev range and the sound of the petrol vastly destroy any of the merits of Diesel. I won't rip anyone off for driving a Diesel, but I don't think it's for me.

ps Freerider, I won't tell your 320i anything, the last thing you want is a jealous BMW. ;-)

Thank you guys.
