I've just arrived home after a 2494km trip down to the cape for a wedding this weekend. It was a tough one since I had to take leave and drive down on Friday, the wedding was on Saturday evening and then drive back today to be back for work.:thumbdo:

It was a bit tiring but a fun drive. This was the first time a have taken a really long roadtrip and was keen to see the consumption over such a long trip. I expected it to be better than my normal trip of 100km per day or 250km - 400km on occasion.

We left Klerksdorp @ 5am on Friday and drove down on the N12 via Kimberly, Beaufort West then Meiringspoort, Oudtshoorn, Mosselbay and finaly to Swellendam. Total distance 1246km:

Average consumption was 4.8l/100km (it was down to 4.7 before hitting the mountain passes at Meiringspoort and between Oudtshoorn and Mosselbay (Robertson's pass)

Average speed was also down taking into account there is about 8 stop/go's on the way (most of them between Drie Sisters and Beaufort West) which accounted for about 30min of stoppages.

I filled up in Klerksdorp before leaving and we filled the only time in Beaufort West when the tank was about 1/4.

Beaufort West still only has one garage with 50 ppm diesel (Caltex) and they charge R13.17/l:thumbdo:

Arriving on Friday night I had to drive 5km of gravel road to the farm. So the car was very dirty afterwards. But I decided to take a few "dirty pictures" anyway with the cell phone:

But then had to get up early again today to drive back. I was still on the same tank and made it all the way back to Beaufort West for the second and last fill up:

The same Caltex:bangdesk:

The trip back gave consumption of 5.0l/100km (must be because it's uphill?):fencelook:

Eco mode while cruising, sport in the mountain passes:fencelook:

Nice road from Mosselbay to Oudthoorn:idea:

Consumption would be higher cos your average speed was slightly up. Still, that's amazing consumption.

The average speed is not really a fair reflection due to the time spend at the stop/go's. Average speed at one stage was above 120km/h before stopping 30 mins at the stop/go's.

Those stop/go's are a pain in the ass! When I came down to CT a couple of weeks ago I got stuck in them, not lekker at all.

But that is still some seriously good consumption. Wish I could get that.... :praise:

One problem with good consumption is way to few stops at garages to clean the windscreen:fencelook:
