Golf ball season is ovrr
Sent by my cellphone
but marble season is still far from over
general rule for hail
1) early summer/ first summer storms, small hail but lots and lots of it
2) Mid summer hail violent golf balls
3) late summer/ last summer storms, small hail but lots and lots of it
this is due to the Artic air mass moving in, lowering the height of the tropopause, any early summer, or late summer vertical development will easily penetrate into this Artic air sliding over the top, and will freeze rain droplets easily, forming hail, the clouds dont even need a serious amount of vertical development, but because there is less up and down drafts, the hail doesnt accumulate into golf balls, but rather into LOTS and LOTS of smaller hail.
in the mid summer, the Artic air mass is well south, and the height of the tropopause is a lot higher, now the vertical development clouds allow for single hail stones to travel up and down, a lot more, accumulating and growing to golf balls very easily
