Was hoping it didn't get worse. It's gone quiet again in pta East.

The weather sites don't even mention hail. Pathetic. Some still say cloudy. Full stop!

If it would make you guys feel any better... the 7 series got hit as well driving home.

Freak hail storm, on the N3 at like 8:30 at night, temp on the OBD was 15.5 deg

I dont know if it did damage, will check in the morning.

Wierd...

I have been following the weather reporting services for the last couple of days, the scary thing is boksburg was predicted with 20% chance of rain...

That was no 20...

Weather was insane.
There were 2 storms that flanked Bedford, one cell from the east, other from the south. The northbound one brought more and harde hail after the storm from the east cooled the air.
Thankfully only got hit by about 6-10 stones at most as I made my way to cover, spent most of the evening in underground parking

Spartan was hard it. Hail stones the size of golf balls. Saved by a few minutes, was about to pull out from under a carport when the freak storm hit. Had to wait abt 30 minutes for it to subside.

phewww...I am done for

my last weather image update showed the main storm moving off towards Petit/Bapsfontein/PTA east, but little did I know that that thundercell had a last dying breath, and unusually re-formed on its trailing edge.

then the lightning hit, and gone was the ADSL, I managed to view an image on my Samsung tab, before the freight train came in, that image showed that now it was everywhere, with no area's really in the clear.

5 minutes of noise so loud I couldn't hear the dog barking.

Damage
1)Electric fence ripped
2)IBR sheeting on garage roof clogged with so much hail, that it was pouring water all over into my usually dry garage,
3)Main gutters clogged with hail that water overflowed into the ceiling, drip drip drip in the main bedroom.
4)Swimming pool totally covered in shrapnel from the trees and shrubs (looked like hartebeespoort dam)
5)Garden in general ripped to shreds...(at least nature always rebounds)

Spent the last 2hours skimming the swimming pool, sweeping the paving around the pool, skimming the Koi pond, on the roof sweeping the IBR sheeting and the gutters clean, repairing the electric fence bobbins

what a night.

At least no cracked or broken windows, or damaged cars

at least Leonard's prayers for a bumper christmas have been answered....looks like I am in the wrong business...today the shop did a grand total of R600 trade....not good for trying to pay the bills

Ok so its confirmed, all 3 cars damaged, even under the shad netting

In times like this I wish I was a panel beater, those guys are going to have a nice x-mas bonus.

I was reading Ralfs post when it started in Pierre van Ryneveld. For the first time in my time in PTA east have i experienced golf ball sized hail. I was convinced that the tiles on the roof or a window was going to give. I have of carports as well and the noise was extremely loud. Did a basic check last night and all was well. Checked again this morning and seems that no damage was done. Some friends in the neighborhood had there gutters damaged and fall off probably due to the weight of the hail and water.
