Hi all,

Our BMW 2002 is finally arriving by train tomorrow (4 April) from Cape Town and we are all excited.

My husband and I are now looking for a place where they can restore our BMW completely, it will be a comprehensive project, but we are really looking for an excellent place, with a solid reputation.

Any feedback, tips and advice are most welcome.

Thanks! Josee

Hi,

We would like the BMW to go in straight from the train tomorrow, but the actual work can take time, we are not in a rush and its a complete rebuild that we are looking for.

Thanks!

Body wise I can help you out with the restoration,

Mechanically, I can also assist, but you need to tell us what you need done.

If you are doing a bolt for bolt original restoration, can I suggest contacting somebody like Classicman on the forum.

What have you folks got in mind ?

Uhm, you know classicman lives in PE right?

I have only heard good things of LEEWAY AUTO out in JHB. Ask for Leon 0827825282. They do everything, proper sandblasting (trust me, don't let just anybody sandblast a car) they strip the car with paint stripper first and then lightly blast the rest, they do rust repair, mechanical restoration. Proper old-school body shop. From just talking to Leon, it's the only place I would send my car.

Look at the level of work they did on this 530MLE

and here are some pictures on the restoration about half way down the post:

buying a classic and then farming the work out is expensive and half the fun is doing work yourself . strip what you can off the car taking photos at each step . label parts as required and when you send the body in you can clean all parts while waiting for the body . Any assemblies like engine etc can be sent for check/overhaul/repair at the same time .
Good Luck .
