Water in battery bay

Howsit guys,

I keep getting this problem that when it rains quite alot in CPT my battery bay fills up with water.

I have to then remove the battery and the battery securing plate to dry everything up.

I see there is a plastic tube that runs to the bay but it seems that its supposed to be plugged into something but its not. Im not sure if this is where the water is coming from.

Thanks for the help!

Chris, that plastic tube is your battery overflow pipe and should have a little plastic pipe that pushes into the top part of the battery to leak excess acid out, should it get to hot or is overfilled!

I suspect it may be leaking from the lights into the battery area but there are a few other places it could be coming from...

take the covers and carpet out then hose down the car to see if you can trace it

No wet carpets.

If it is the lights then the left side should also be wet?

Will have a look.

Thanks Ramon. I suspected its the tube that goes to the battery but it seems the piece that should be on the battery is not there.

Will scout around to see if i can get another one.

PS. I do have aftermarket lights on the car

worn/collapsed rubbers perhaps?

Years ago I had an A4 with the same problem. after heavy rains, water used to fill the boot.

I used a very crude method to fix the problem. I got into the boot with a torch, closed the boot while my SO stood outside the car and hosed the boot. Found the leak, bought a new set of rubbers from goldwagen and the car never leaked again...

Worth a try...

For the first few months of owning my E90 I noticed that the boot carpet would sometimes get damp when washing the car, eventually found that the cable harness that goes into the boot lid was bending in the wrong direction when closing the boot and being pinched between the boot lid and the rubber seal. Luckily after I pushed and guided the cable harness to bend in the correct direction it returned to normal and settled as well as allowing the rubber seal to lose the deformation and seal as intended.

Chris,
The newer batteries don't have the overflow anymore.

This really is the only effective way

If you feel claustrophobic, then lower the rear folding seats for more airyness
