Warning light HELP

Sup Gents, was driving the car today had just under 1/4 tank gas, was driving kinda hard then suddenly i get a strange warning light and serious loss of power, checked it out and its the "Engine malfunction Reduced Power" symbol. anyway topped up the tank and the symbol dissapears and car drive normal again... Question is... is this the HPFP thats going or does the car normally go into limp mode when the gas is low??

Not really it should not go into limp mode.My 135i never threw any warning besides low fuel light.

I've been told that problems occuring on low levels of fuel are often related to bad quality fuel or a dirty tank. If it happens everytime around that spot maybe consider getting your tank cleaned properly. Also maybe consider changing your petrol station. I for one am really picky about where I fill up...but I'm picky about most things. I jsut know years ago my mom picked up a similar issue in a e30 316i and after many technicians telling her it's the MAF, and some weird wire bypass thing and quoting her a fortune, my dad first had the petrol pump replaced and checked the tank. Turns out her petrol had dirt and mud in. She confronted the gentleman running her regular watering hole and they discovered their one tank underground was slightly ruptured. He offered to pay for all the damages.

Tank cleaned and pump replaced, her bmw purred like a little four pot kitten once again.

This might not be the sum total of your problems, but might be worth taking note of since it's a much cheaper fix than starting to replace things.

Had the same problem with my old car.
Only that i happend a couple of times. Once almost making me have an accident on the highway.
90% of power cut out...
Once it was due to low petrol as i had 10th of a quarter left. basically none.
Every other time was with a full tank or half a tank.
Took it in numerous time, each time they replaced something, trotle valve, and so on.
Eventually they replaced the whole wiring harness and the problem went away.

Could be fuel pump. Had a similar issue a few months ago. There could be a lot of things that cause limp mode. Read the codes. Also dont let fuel run to 1/4 tank.
