I am a private buyer looking to purchase a 2011/12 BMW 550i sedan from a private seller with <65000km and in great condition (no accidents, minimal signs of wear, full BMW service history). My preference would be for a white/black/grey or silver vehicle. The more "packs" or extras the better. I would be willing to pay up to R400,000 cash, depending on condition and mileage. I am not in a rush - if you own this vehicle and are looking to buy a new car, let's talk - no chancers please: we'll go through full AA checks before concluding the sale.

Just a word of warning: These engines are VERY troublesome and sensitive. There is at least 2 cars with that engine in our workshop (BMW) with issues. Mostly a case of oil leaking through the turbo, which leads to other issues. Even on a low mileage (sub 100k km) car these engines give a lot of hassle and are extremely sensitive.

Thanks Eon

In your experience, is the 2012+ N63B44O1 version of the engine more reliable, or do similar issues crop up with both the 299kW N63B44O0 and the 331kW N63B44O1?

Cheers

Grin,

So far we have only had the N63B44O0 engined cars in our workshop (1st gen X5 50i, F01 750i, 550i GT pre LCI). That said, I cannot confirm or deny that this particular issue has occured with the updated version of the engine.

Regards and merry xmas!
