Walked into a E36 M3 with 9543 km on it.

I think that this is a waste of a good car... 500km a year is not nearly enough. the rubbers and plastic will turn brittle, not to mention 'dry starting' because the oil has all drained into the sump

Apart from being extra clean, i wouldn't touch this car more than I would one that has 600,000km on the clock :thumbdo:

A car with 600k on the clock that has been maintained properly isn't going to give you issues. In fact it's probably going to be more reliable in daily use compared to a garage queen that you suddenly start putting kms on.

This i know, but it isn't a car that I would prefer.

its in JHB
2 door, German spec
Black interior, white exterior
i believe this mileage to be true

i was chatting to my mechanic and he knows a couple guys with "garage queens".
a Renualt Clio V6 (800 km on the clock)
E46 M3 (6500 km)
Golf 4 GTi R (1200km)
ect.

they all have similar issues.
flat spots on tyres
oil turns to sludge, especially in the top of the motor.
petrol goes bad.
probably most common the fuel pumps fails.

that's not to mention the suspension and anything else mechanical that sits in one state for years.

but if you have the money and the space, these issues can be maintained and fixed.

Pics please...

But interesting twist to the thread.

I'm no expert, but surely a car this old with such low mileage will have some issues...? As mentioned above; brittle plastics and rubber bits, oil turning into sludge etc.

Also, a car with 600 000km will also problems. Metal fatigue is a thing, does this also happen to engine parts? If didn't, I imagine the motor industry will go bust.

What's better? 20 years old with no mileage? or 20 years old with "reasonable" mileage?

Car looks very nice, but some things I noticed, Tyre thread for 9000km don't look right, why would they polish the lips on the rim for such an original example? and one more thing, the caps over the wiper arms are missing...

Not saying its not original, just what I noticed

alpine white stickers missing from the shock towers?
+1 side skirt being held with a bolt looks out of place! Tappet cover scratches is also odd for such a low mileage car.....but overall from two pics looks decent!
