Initially, I felt so guilty just taking the 530d to the local store for bread and milk

the car feels so majestic that at first you might want to retain it for serious trips only
After a few short trips, I got so used to it, that I’m starting to feel that the E46 M-Sport has a crashy ride, and the F30 is not as refined on the road. It seriously feels luxurious; the multi-contour seats as they call them overseas are a nice to have option. In fact, it’s one of the options I would want to keep on my cars going forward; the seating position and support is phenomenal, from headrest, back lumber support to thigh support. Once you get used to these seats, the standard seats or even the M-Sport seats feels inadequate.
I had no idea how great the Adaptive lights are with Auto Beam Assist till I experienced them. This is another option I’d like to have in a car going forward. Effortless light use, great lightning at night, you don’t touch that stalk anymore once you push the Auto button. The lights can dim one section (say right light) and maintain higher lightning on the left so you have good coverage of the road and next to it at the same time not blinding the car drivers in front of you. I was always a Fan of xenon lights, this takes things to the next level.
A video explaining the tech:
The 530d that I have, came with Adaptive Suspension option (others refer to as ADC). It’s superb, it does away with the “boat” feel of a 5 series. The standard 5 series without it is night and day driving experience to the one with Adaptive Suspension. Honestly though, even with this option, this car doesn’t have the last word when it comes to road handling. My E46 still wins hands down here! At least the Adaptive Suspension tighten things up, removes the boaty feel.
So, how is it living with a 5 series.
In a nutshell: It’s awesome,
The only pet hate is the thin steering (since all my cars have M-Sport steering). That’s one mod that I have to do. My M-Sport F30 steering feels a lot better (it’s meatier). I think if you are going for a F10, rather see if you can get a M-Sport version. Luckily I have black anthracite roof like you find in the M-Sport.
This car has the auto dip mirror feature (which I also have on my 2003 E46 330i), it’s quite handy when reversing, the mirror tilts so you can see to wheel level, helps with pavements, etc. Nothing major though.
I’m glad I took an engine I’m accustomed to (3.0d N57 which I had on the X3). Makes this car pick up speed quick. I think (I’m speculating here) I would have been a bit disappointed had it been a 2.0d. It’s a big car, granted, which takes getting used to. To give you a sense, it’s 4.9m long vs 4.5m for a 3 series. Like everything else, after a few drives you get used to it. The Auto Sport Transmission with the 3.0d is just plain superb! Fantastic combo. This car is doing more trips (well short trips to the shop a d back) than the E46s, which were their job.
