Very loud fan E90 323I

Hey all,

Can anyone give me advice.

My dads 323i has a very loud fan.
Its the one thats switchs on when you use the aircon or when its very hot.


Its so loud that i can hear it coming from a distance.

Its been in 3 times at bmw for this but they say its normal. My 325i is also loud but not as loud as the 323.

What could be wrong coz BMW says its normal but its really anoying. Anything to be worried about?

My 325i did the same suddenly and when i took it in and they found out it was the Thermostat, and they did not have stock.
io had to come back teh next day and the fan was back to normal.

The aural effects of the blades could depend on fewthings... Speed, proximity to other stationary objects, the width of the blades, the environment that could cause amplification. Are both these cars identical in these regards?

Yes the first time i took it in they replaced the Thermostat because the fan was continually on. Now that’s sorted but when the fan does come on from time to time it is very loud. Louder than the norm

Mine is a pre LCI 325i and the 323i is LCI.

Im not sure if they are different or not. But there are alot of e90 owners in our area and none of them sound as loud as this one.

And i am really serious when i say i can hear the car coming from a few houses away.

I am reading all of this and all I know is my 323i has been doing this loud fan noise as well for the last few weeks. I did the quick "check" thing and the computer think the car is good 2 go.

Guess a visit to the dealer is the way to go, even they ask me a monthly installment just to have a look. :biglol:

Had a similar problem on my e90 323i,the fan sounded loud like the one on the old model vw s,and i ignored it for weeks until my car overheated in the middle of nowhere,replaced the waterpump and thermostat,and now the fan noise is gone.
