Valve Stem Seals

So...this morning I asked BMW to send me an estimate to replace the "dreaded" valve stem seals on the 7-er. Now, before I let you know what the estimate was from them I though I would ask if anyone has had this done, and what the cost was.

GP Motor Works quoted me just shy of R30k, but this does include some re-tooling of the heads etc. What I asked BMW for was just replacing the Valve Stem Seals and the Head Gaskets.

Lets see 2 heads off roughly R80k

In that case all they will do is remove the cams and lifters and springs and change the seals in place without removing the head.

The fact that it can be done in situ does not mean that it is correct,as typically valve stem seals do not just fail without a reason.

The design of the actual seal was inherently flawed. Either way I will have BMW report on it.
