Hi guys, I've got to have my valve stem seals done on a 2003 E46 320ci. I imported the car when I moved back from the UK.

Anyone in the Somerset West / Cape Town area that you can recommend, as the 2 quotes I've got so far are like R10k.

Appreciated.

My wife's 120i uses a bit of oil, took it to the dealers for a quote, around R30K.....:yuck::yuck:
Haven't seen the quote, car is just over 5 years old, has about 120000km on, auto, always been driven carefully.....R30K seems crazy......

Was at Helderview BMW in Somerset West yesterday and spoke to the Service Advisor (Bennie) who told me that they do the valve stem oil seals on the E90 320i's in situ without taking off the head. Did not ask for a quote but phone him and ask. Very helpful bloke.

Hi all

I have the same problem with the white smoke and rapid consumption of the engine oil on my E90.

I am aware that I need to replace the stem valve seal. Can anyone help with a good mechanic with reasonable price as well as reasonable time to work on the car in Gauteng. I am based at Johannesburg.

I received the quote of R16 000.00 from one mechanic JHB CBD. I believed this is too much. I believe there are mechanics who can do the same job with better prices.

Check that link and PM John from Leo Haese Pretoria. He might be still running that special.

I had mines done a few months ago at Leo Haese, John helped me out and managed to get it done within the same day, took the car in really early and it literally took the whole day to do, its quite a time consuming job.

Others leave the car there and take the Gautrain back to jhb and collect the car the next day.

I had it done during the special that he was running, call him to get a quote.

I'm glad to report that The smoke and oil consumption problem is gone.

Hi guys

Same issue here, valve stem seals on my e90 320i 2008 must be replaced - SMG Tygervalley asks R10 000. Is this a reasonable price or can anyone suggest alternative workshops?

Thanks

The quote give is incorrectly quoted, item number 4 on your quote is the valve stem seals, which is a kit of 16 valve stem seals, I see that they quoted you on 8 kits, which means that they quoted you 128 valve stem seals on a 16V engine

let them fix the quote and the price wont be 30K

One would think 4 years later he has either done it already, or sold the car :mmm:

I know a guy Papi (076 018 0137) from Centurion who recently did mine for R4500. Same day, no head removed.

It depends on your currency and how good your dealer is. In South Africa some dealers remove the head and others dont. My dealer I use are good and they do not remove the head. I even spent the day there watching how they do it. you need a few special tools like putting back the cams for timing and a tool to compress the valve springs and a compressor to put pressure in the cylinder. It takes about 4 hours max to complete

Its anything from R3000 to R5000 in our country. R3000 if you can get a BMW mechanic to do a private job and at the dealer its R5000

Hi All, Ive just got an N62 in an old BMW X5. Absolutely marvelous for its age. Unfortunately as is typical with these engines I have what I think is a valve stem seal issue. I changed the CVVs when I got the car but still smoking now and then.

Does anyone know of a good mechanic in Cape Town that can replace the valve stem seals without removing the head?
