V10 Rod Bearings

Howsit guys... Haven't been on the forum in a whillllllle... Hope everyone's well.

Just a quick update. A few weeks ago I had this ominous feeling that I should send my V10 in for rod bearings change. I just felt uneasy. The vehicle has 103000km on the clock now, and has given me NO ISSUES besides an alternator.

I called Tunetech, told them to just BOOK IT IN. I sent it in. They sent me the below photo of my bearings. Talk about God whispering in my ear. I narrowly avoided a MASSIVE repair bill. LOL

Car is done, along with a new vanos pipe, reconditioned oil pump and mountings. Feels amazing!!  :tiptoe:

Well done for changing them. Unfortunately rod bearings don't really give much warning, unless you do oil analysis, and even that is not necessarily conclusive.

Any idea as to who in Jhb can do an oil analysis?

Yes, absolutely. I'd done oil analysis twice before. But in the end, I knew what needed to be done.

i remember a recent thread where a chap paid R16k (or less) at SMG BMW for an E46 //M...we didn't want to believe the price but apparently its cheaper than it used to be.

@"ajm" Tune-Tech would be able to assist with the oil analysis.. They use WearCheck.

I am still astounded by the "oil pump refurb"
Would you mind explaining what was done to refurbish the oil oil pumps ?

Those bearings are dead a good decision on your part.
