Thank you for elaborating on the oil pump.
"we blueprint them" hides a litany of misinformation unless one explains what blueprint means and or entails.
If you polish any of the  metal in the pump you remove material thus creating a bigger clearance between the moving parts which leads to less pressure. Given that oil pumps are manufactured to exacting tight clearances I doubt that polishing does anything else other than reduce pressure due to larger clearances.
Any marks on the vanes will only be found if there has been debris in the pump and that cannot typically be polished out due to above.

Not arguing just thinking out loud that their explanation is not shall we say entirely...

For all the work put in this will be a great keeper when done. Irrespective of costs, to each his own on whether the cash injection is "worth it". Your car... Your money.

I still miss the drive of these cars. They seem so much more analogue than the newer cars. A certain rawness and feel about them that sadly you can't buy with the newer cars.

Put on the mileage when mechanically refreshed!!!

Agree. Should just be replaced...not refurbed.

Oil pump blueprint... eh eh, also refurbish... no Neither VAC or Turner does any from of upgraded oil pump kits for the S85, they did for the S54 and the S85 has a waaay worse oil pump failure rate. So what makes you think a tiny shop in in South Africa with a handful of customers knows better than internationally renowned M modification and repair shops. Before handing over your hard earned cash do your homework, so many people out there making a quick buck off others. "Caveat emptor "

Nobody believed me when I said the F10 was cheaper (including the purchase price 6 years ago) than a V10 LMFAO. Still love them though. It separates the men from the boys cash wise. You can drive an F10 with motorplan and monthly payments, but to keep a V10 on the road and mint, you need cash... lots and lots of cold hard cash (RIP if you're using a credit card for this LOL).

You will also never get the R100K back.... or the other 20 or 30 you will pay for VANOS... or the 50 to 100K gearbox/clutch job when each of these crop up... cos the person you would want to sell the car on to will have no comfort from it being done at this point. There are many guys who bought 'sorted' or 'clean' V10s and then had to redo these things anyway. @"Neven"  has stories.

Still cheaper than buying a Gallardo for those V10 noises! Though R8 V10 might actually be a cheaper and more reliable way than buying a cheap BMW V10 soon.

Definitely not cheap to maintain but one must “normalize” these bills for marginal utility of ownership for best nights sleep:)

Update on my car: car has been at tunetech for the last two weeks. I’m very happy with the service so far.
Mechanical work done and car was on the dyno today.

We ended up half straight piping the car. Left the two inner bmw boxes and removed the outer two. Car turned out to be decatted already..

O yes, this is what it sounds like  :smilebounce:

Car made 500hp and 500nm on the flywheel which I’m pretty happy with at altitude. I don’t read too much into dyno numbers, but car seems happy. Can’t wait to get it back..

Congrats man... I owned an M6 for 5 years.

I wish I could tell you what to watch out for cos mine gave me ZERO problems. Only a dead alternator and did rod bearings. Everything else was perfect.

Just warm it up for a few minutes on first start, then drive moderately for about 5km to warm up the other oils, then go wild. ENJOY!!!

Not at all. Windows closed on the highway you can hardly hear the exhaust when cruising.

I only drive it over weekends though, think it would be a little loud to daily as is...

That’s great. Was contemplating doing this via a valve setup so I can bypass the 2 larger boxes or run them for totally stock sound. This may have convinced me. Thanks!

It’s worth considering valving the outer pieces i straight piped, this should give you best of both worlds...

So nearly 2 years in and no major issues so far. Car has just gone over 100 00kms of which I’ve done around 8 000km.
Last annual service I had to do steering angle sensor and some minor stuff, but nothing too serious.

We did a trip to nelspruit last year and I was amazed to feel the difference at a little lower altitude..

The straight pipe exhaust is starting to be a little too loud. It doesn’t bother me that much, but cold start is brutal and one of my daughters first sentences were the bmw is too loud. :)
I’m looking for advice on alternatives.
I don’t want to spend silly money on importing back boxes. I was thinking of fitting a sporty silencer where we straight piped it.
Any advice or recommended shops to do the work?

Was in this very situation - had a straight pipe and my daughter had same complaints. As much as the straight pipe sounded glorious, I always thought it was a bit too boisterous for my liking.

Ended up putting the stock silencers back with a decat. Very happy!
