Using Wynns Injector cleaner on a N54 135i

Good Day Gents.

I'm not to sure if this topic has been discussed already or if I'm posting this in the correct section, however I would like to find out if anyone has used any type of injector cleaner in there 135i/335i 's and if its made a difference or if it might harden the seals on the engine etc?

I am planning a trip from Richards bay to Port Elizabeth tomorrow, approximately 1200km and wanted to empty a bottle of injector cleaner into my tank in order to try and clean up a bit of carbon build up in the intake and injectors.

I was thinking of using an octane boost, however I've read a few things on the net that say that stuff can harden your seals and may damage your engine over time, think I am going to stick to filling up with Shell V Power Nitro.+

I have requested BMW dealers to do a carbon clean up , however they say that they don't offer that service, and it cannot be done on a car which is still within motor plan. My vehicle is a 2008, however motor plan has been extended.

Any advice would be gladly appreciated.

Thanks.

injector cleaner will not clean the carbon buildup because fuel does not flow over the valves on your engine...

talk to carbon doctor about cleaning im sure he can advise about MP

Fuel injector cleaner will not hurt but main function is to clean injectors, not a bad idea to keep injectors clean imho

Haven't used it in my F30 yet, but I have used it successfully in all my other vehicles "the magic blue bottle"

I suffered no ill effects what so ever. in fact in most of my Diesel vehicles I saw a marked improvement on Diesel consumption over a period of time.

The only reason I have not used it in my F30 is that I still hanve not figured out how to get past that metal flap/lock in the diesel tank.

1. octane boost will not harden any seals in the injections system
2. shell nitro isn't any better than BP or Engen, its all marketing
3. injector cleaner will not decarbon your valves, the proper cleaning process needs to be done by carbon doctor,
4. BMW will not admit there is a carbonization issue with the n54/55 motors yet, however they will clean for you while on plan if the car has misfiring issues and normal parts replacements don't work
5. carbon cleaning can be done irrespective of on motorplan or not, all gaskets are replaced with new OEM gaskets.

Modern fuels have so much detergents in, injector cleaner should not be necessary. Wynns injector cleaner is pretty much just normal methylated spirits, so don't waste your money. If you have to, buy something like AC Delco injector cleaner. That said, it won't do anything for carbon build up as per the above posts.

I just called the Reeds dealer in CT for AC Delco injector cleaner, its apparently R33. I guess i will be testing this soon on my 328 :)

NF ultra works best/easiest for me. 1L Silver tin in 50litres I think. Details on the tin. Takes 30-40kms to adapt. You should notice the difference from your bum dyno. As for injectors cleaners, Carbon Doctor worked for me. If your mileage is over 80k km you wont regret the carbon clean.

Other octane boosters might muck your plugs up quicker.

The posts above have explained everything you need to know. My expeience: I tried the injector cleaner (Wynns) when my car started having misfire issues. In the end I had to replace the injectors, not because of the cleaner but because they were shot. I started with the cheapest solution and worked my way up ie. Injector cleaner, plugs, carbon clean, coils, injectors in that order.

I did not notice any effect good or bad from the injector cleaner. I added a bottle to every other full tank for about six tanks to see if it could possibly resolve the issue.

BTW my car is a N54 135i, and at the time I used the injector cleaner she was still stockers.

As P1000 said modern fuels have so many additives that clean, or that are supposed to clean your engine components I doubt there will be major advantages to using the injector cleaner.
If you have some extra dosh to burn, literally, :sorry: I can't see it being a bad thing to add a bottle every now and then.

I did my carbon clean while car was under motorplan. As said above BMW won't admit there is a problem with carbon build up in direct injection engines. The pictures taken before and after prove otherwise. I had the same argument with BMW last year. Really don't stress about MP.
Recap: NF Ultra works and so does a proper carbon clean

Why not user ethanol instead of NF octane boosters.

NF black fouls plugs cause its not mixed correctly and thuse causes the damages to the plugs.

It needs to be mixed a full bottle to 60 liters, so if you use less than 60 liters then you need to put in less NF black
