Used 320d 2009 or 330d 2006?

I need some recommendations.
330d power isn't the deciding factor to me, but would be nice.
I commute daily between pta and jhb.
Need space for baby seat sometimes, so 1 series is out, 3 series can work as an occasional family car as well (wife drives the family car, Nissan x trail).
On carfind the estimated interest rate is 1% higher on the 330d, that counts against it, might not be applicable to me.
I intend to keep the car as long as it remains reliable and reasonable to maintain, changing oil and filters I typically do myself.
I'm 32 so I don't expect a big insurance premium difference.
Proper A2DP bluetooth could convince me to go for the 320d if available, I don't know if the 2009 320ds are capable of that, something I could retrofit.
And I hope the reports I posted another time on timing chain wear for the N47 and related engines aren't a true issue, that is definitely a determining factor!

3 years is quite a big difference in my opinion, as nice as it would be to get the 2 extra cylinders, I wouldn't go for it in this instance. a +1 to the 320D

If power isn't your deciding factor, then go for the 320d

I agree that the 320d would be the better option, based on the fact that it would be a newer model, probably lower mileage and fuel costs would be cheaper.

The 320d is certainly the sensible choice.

However, try to go for an extended test drive in each one. If it's a car you're going to keep for a while, you certainly want the maximum enjoyment from it too. Nothing wrong with either

on a plus side, the 2009 320d should be around the 125-130kw mark, so it aint that slow.., a good remap and DP once out of Mp will sort out any power issues you may have by then...

If it's an LCI which the 09 should be then it has the 135/380 powerplant? Nonetheless I never thought I'd own a tractor but loving every minute in it! :inlove:

I would certainly choose the 320D, its a newer model. As for power, as some members mentioned, that can be sorted out.

The shuttle between Pta and JHB in a 3.0 makes less sense than in a 2.0d.

However, before you make a pick, get the cars checked out (service history and all) and whichever proves to have been better maintained, is the one you want.

Definitely 320d
Newer so most likely to have motorplan left and also extendable, more fuel efficient, and better resale value bacause of its age. Has a good amount of power to start with but mods are available. I would personally not mod it though.

if you avoid the logistics of the car in terms of age bla bla bla, and just look at it motor for motor, 330d, the M57N is a proven design in terms of reliability.

I have heard of very few 330d's suffer major engine failure, but have heard of oodles of 320d's....

The 6 cyl in my view also does not work as hard... therefore, by association..
