Hi Fanatics

Just want to find out if these flash drives will work in the USB input for the music?

The storage space is quite large, I currently use an 8GB, in the car, but don't want to purchase these and then the don't work.

They will work. Just make sure they are formatted to FAT32.

The 32gig will likely already be FAT32, the 64gig is probably NTFS, but can be converted.

:joy:

Yay, that's a lot of music that can be stored on a 32GB for R200.

I think USB input is one the most convenient developments on the in car entertainment side for BMWs

USB FTW......

hey ash,

I cant see that pic at work but just for information sake i had a 64gb stick and it worked fine until it it started filling up. It would freeze sometimes or not pick up at all.

I did some searching and found out that the Kingston usb works better in our cars. It is faster or something like that.

I changed over to Kingston and it works much better. When its almost full it does take abit longer to pick up but no freezing issue.

Thats just something that worked for me.

Hey VRSexy6, yeah I might get the 64GB, since you mention you always used a 64GB. Thanks for the info!

I use a 32gb Scandisk Ultra and works fine.

I was advised not to go larger as it may take longer to read and may freeze. Also it needs to be FAT32.

Hey bru just another thing. On my 2007 e90 and my dads 09 e90 we could only use 32GB max and that too we had freezing issue.

Im not sure if there is a software update from BMW but this has only worked on my 2011 e90.

64gb works fine, the reason it freezes is because the car is trying to index it all, with metadata etc.

I find in the F10 that if I use playlists and not "folderise" everything, it works just fine.

the car doesn't have enough computing capability to be able to index it all quickly enough, which is why it sometimes freezes or hangs.

Thanks Nastaliq for the feedback, so in order words, I should put all the music data into a single file location and just create playlists to read all the data?

Heres what I think:

I have had a 64gb Sandisk formatted as Fat32 and working like a charm in my E90 LCI since I got it in 2010.no hanging, delays, freezing........nothing.

When I traded it in, I removed the flash, and plugged into my F10. not changing folders, tracks, order or anything, just plug and press play.

the only thing that has infact changed is that now when I try to play, it shows album art on my idrive screen.

therefore, the only conclusion I have drawn, is that the car is taking longer pulling the info from the folders and indexing etc.

what I have consequently done is added a folder called Playlists in there, created a few playlists in iTunes, copied them into that folder in .m3u format and it has been working like it used to in my E90 before.

what was easy for me was to create each folder as a playlist, so instead of browsing folders nested in folders, what you are left with is playlists instead.

It works for me, and it may/may not work for you.

either way, I would appreciate it, if you could let us know, for the benefit of all. :)
