Upgraded Nav OS/Firmware [E39 M5 Content]

After having read-up about this quite a bit, I decided to flash my Nav's Firmware to something a lot newer than what it was running.

The reason behind it, is that the new version has a much improved interface and makes the car feel that little bit more modern.

Excuse the pic quality.. I've retired my camera and I'm using the iPhone until I find a decent replacement SLR.

Installation CD doing its thing:

A nifty little extra, is that you're presented with a splash screen as soon as you open the door after unlocking the car..

New-themed Main Menu:

Some extra selectable items that you can have shown-up on the speedo-cluster OBC screen:

DSP Settings screen looks a lot better too:

Largely unchanged Radio/CD/Audio screens, but looks much better:

And by far, the biggest improvements are to the Nav itself
Much better predictive text than before:

Additional navigation route filtering:

I have to say, that I prefer this Nav system to my Garmin.
The maps themselves might not have the cool 3D-look, but the entire interface and directional routing is just so much better.
The Mk4 Nav does support Perspective View and 3D View, but unfortunately mine doesn't.

Where did you get the firmware? I am thinking that i should do this too! Are you still using the 2008 Nav disk?

Will PM you.
Yes, still using the 2008 Nav disc - works great.

If you don't have Nav, the only way to interface with the TV Tuner is via the iBus - you'll need special equipment for this.

I am also looking for a hack that allows you to use the TV while driving.

Did mine last night and it is working.

This is not for the faint hearted. I thought I killed my nav computer and it surprised me by reloading itself 12h10 this morning in a Petrol station!

When you do this follow the guides to the word, even if they do sound stupid... Apparently there is a difference between a disk burnt at 52x and one at 1x...

Thanks ANiMOSiTY... I would have still been taking my car apart if you didn't help me last night... I owe you a beer!!!

I am sure you could do this upgrade on a 4:3...

@Ru, glad your upgrade was successful!
I also had a few hair-raising moments when doing mine.

@BimmerMan, you can upgrade your 4:3, as long as you have Nav.

Yep, that 5 minute wait while loading takes forever :mmm: ....

Ha ha ha, I can see how that could look misleading... Mine actually disabled the navigation for a good 6 hours and the software bounced back a few versions... I had no navigation, it was locked up so bad that a diag computer didn't even see it!
