Hello guys and gals!
So based on the great success of the run to Hermanus this past weekend, I have been in discussions regarding some events we'd like to put together. I've realised that for many this is a social interaction, and that we don't need to necessarily do runs in order to get everyone together.
By that I mean that often times we enjoy standing around ogling each other's cars and talking generally about cars, life etc. So on that basis, I've run the mill over a few events I'd like to have planned as get togethers.
Obviously there is the March Black Out event, which we are mooting for the 19th of March (it's a Wednesday). On top of that, I have the following event ideas for the next few months. Understanding that not everyone can make every event, or that for many going on an long run isn't always the ideal social interaction.
So, the events being planned are as follows:
1. March Black Out event (currently mooted for the 19th of March). We'd like to do this every 5-7 weeks so we can keep our interactions lively and interest going!
2. May Fanatics Birthday event. We are planning on finding a spot somewhere public and perhaps taking over for the day. This will be incorporating a Show and Shine day, family orientated events (jumping castle for the kids, bring and braai etc.), a Fanatics birthday cake and general family outing. We are currently working hard behind the scenes to get this right. The idea being that you would get your car detailed/polished etc. and present your car for us all to see! No judging, just drooling!! We're thinking of either a private venue closed to fanatics only,or a public area where people can generally walk about and view the cars. Call it a mini concours if you will.
3. Western Cape Fanatics Amazing Race. A date hasn't been set as yet. The format would be us all starting from the same location, and tracking clues around Cape Town that would take in most of the Fanatics neighbourhoods. I think this would be a great way of us seeing different parts of Cape Town! The idea being that you go from one location to the next, with a partner, collecting clues and asking general knowledge motoring or Fanatics questions, perhaps a challenge or two. Once completed you move to the next spot until we finally reach a destination where a winner is decided. We then have a braai or a dinner at said venue with out spouses/partners and enjoy the evening,we are contemplating having some prizes thrown in! Depending on the response will depend on how this event expands in the future.
4. Fanatics Time Trial Rally. Again, no date has been put on this, but it would follow the idea of a timed rally between certain points around Cape Town/Western Cape. The point being to get from one checkpoint to the other without being too fast or too slow.Again, we conclude at a final destination where we can have an evening event.
5. Western Cape Cannonball Run. I think this would be a great way for us to explore the Western Cape!! We can keep it within our borders, however it would be a weekend event, incorporating a Friday, Saturday and half day Sunday.
6. Action Football event at Century City. There is an action football arena opposite Canal Walk. Will try and find out if they will have discounted group rates and perhaps use that for a meet and greet/black out event. We can put two or 4 sides together, and have a mini round robin and knockout event.
These are the first ones I have started working on,and I am sure more will evolve over time. As usual, all suggestions welcome for additional events. The whole purpose of a forum is to be a community and not strangers behind a keyboard! We have the strength in numbers to make these events very successful.
Looking forward to your feedback guys!:joy:
