Hey guys, im new to the forum. just stumbled across this thread. i know its slightly old but i found it interesting. i owned a UT too. was built by KS Motorsport. this car was still the most fun iv had on the road:=):but yes, unsafe. u cant expect much from a body like that. mine cornered very well being built and designed for hillclimbs in mind (previous owner won the knysna hillclimb in this class). i loved out-cornering my friends focus ST on my street tires:rollsmile:. but yeah u guys are right, UTs with unmodified suspension are very shakey through corners...
the other thing i found so much fun about the car is waiting for the boost to kick in and then have the tired spinning and screaming for traction. kind of a hillbilly fun experience. im sure those who are charged and who break traction in gear can appreciate what im saying. what im trying to get at is that these cars can be made very fast, but with that speed money needs to be spent. most people that own UTs dont fork out on any other areas besides engine (and then mostly S**T stuff too, hence why sooo many of these classics look horrendous, always makes me sad to see classics in bad condition, doesnt matter what classic). the breaks need upgrading and as mentioned above the suspension too if u want to up the power "safely" (as safely as u can in a UT). but still, the UTs can be fast. mine would deal with standard GTIs, STs and OPCs etc on low boost (0.6bar). i came across a couple of e46 330i's too and dealt with them. on high boost (1-1.1bar) id keep up with e36 and e46 m3s without them opening, although i really cant answer any questions regarding this. both only happened once and both on the n1 and i really cant remember at what speeds, too focused on the moments to be honest.
heres the thing though, the reason i practically never raced bmws is because the car was there for a completely different reason, i wanted to destroy the hot hatches, ironic i know:rollsmile:.
end of the day though, car is too unsafe. no matter what anyone says though, its still awesome. iv got a s13 200sx now. rebuilt the motor and modified the turbo, head work done, dv, and other small things. got meth injection waiting and getting a new aggressive cams as my exhaust side cam has play where it connects. MSX management is also in the plans. but all of this depends on whether or not i want to fulfill my dream of having a e30 325i/325is turbo, hence why im looking through the forum:=):always have had a soft spot for e30s:inlove:
