Uneven Brake pad wear?!

Had my rear brake pads replaced yesterday...
Funny thing is, the one side was completely worn down and the other was as good as new.

What would cause this? How would i go about rectifying the problem?

Anyone else ever had a similar problem?

in order of how I would start the process of fault finding

1) likely poor quality brake pads, with inconsistent pad density and compound
2) worn disks, with possible extra grooves and roughness on the discs
3) Warped disks
4) Sticky caliper, causing limited braking to be applied on one side
5) Internal pipe blockages (gunk) preventing applied fluid pressure to go to the relevant caliper

because the 1 pad is worn (inside probably) i reckon its being pushed against the disc during normal driving

What do you mean by one side? That the left hand brakes were worn and the right hand brakes weren't? Or inside/outside?

probably Sticking Guide pins...

This, caused by lack of lubrication.

As per the BMW TIS:

sticky guide pins , whether rear or front. When you put new pads on now, clean the guide pins, if they heavily corroded or dirty you can buy replacements and maybe even the black rubber caps. Buy a tube of High Temp grease, although I have successfully used Copper Compound but the former is better

Clean the guide pins and the holes. Apply a small amount of grease to the guide pins and assemble.

Sticky guide pins can also cause discs to wear prematurely or even cause high heat build up, which is not good for the discs either. Also if the brakes are used hard and are hot and the car is stopped, the heat from the pad sitting on the disc the whole time can lead to spot scorching which causes either warped discs or shine spots on the disc.
