Hi,

Question 1: E46 330D Aircon.

I own an e46 330D Steptronic. For some strange reason the aircon does not get cold. I have had the compressor checked out as well as a regas and dye test. seemed to have passed both. I dunno what else could cause this.

I know its weird asking for an aircon to work properly in the freeezing cold, but I like to drive with the aircon on, even slightly at 18deg.

does anyone know what the problem could be.

Question 2: E90 320D.

Ok, onto the second question. I was offered a car yesterday by my trusted dealer. seems like a cool car, but id like some ideas from you guys n gals here.

2006, 320D, Titan Silver, Exlcusive,
115k km.
Steptronic (dont even bother complaining about the steptronic, cos I love them to bits and will only buy a manual if its a M3 or M5).
Xenons,
PDC,
Sunroof,
Black Leather interior
MP3 front loader, with 6 disc shuttle
NO Satnav

This car is going for R138k. Not sure if this is a good price. He offered me R110 for my e46 330D.

My concerns are that there is a lil less power.
+ I could get a decent E60 530D for around that kind of money.

Any advice would help. Im really stuck on this one cos the E90 320D is awesome. Dunno what to do.

Xmax,

If they offer you 110k for your car, then they have money in the deal. So if you are keen on the 320d then push them for a better price. The 530d are awesome, and for 138k you'll find one but not likely with less than 140-150k on the clock, not that that matters.

I love my 320d, but then mine is the 135kw motor. The '07 320d which I had felt slow in comparison. I would say that the newer engines are more in the older 330d's power range.

Though choices you have to make here...

Wats up veru.

Just to give you some insight, i organised my father a 2007 320d manual exclusive last year september. It had 48000km on the clock with balance of m/plan, xenons and 17'' e90 330i rims and 1 owner from new. We paid R150 000 for it.

As far as the car itself goes, It is a nice car, great handling, refined drivetrain, spacious interior (for a 3 series), etc. Personally i think that the performance is just above average (My brothers A4 1.9 tdi runs it really close). Dont expect fireworks. However, i believe there was an engine change in 2008, and apparently there is a big difference between the two. After speaking to a few pre 2008 320d owners, the opinion is that auto is a better performer than the manual (i find the my dads car a bit breathless at times, especially after driving my e36 328i:rollsmile:) so the general opinion is if you are buying a pre 2008 320d, its better you buy an auto. I havent driven an auto, so i cant really give a personal opinion.

If it was my choice, i would stick with the e46 330d, as its a monster of a performer, and spares would be cheaper than an e90 (if your e90 doesnt have mplan, i have also heard horror stories about e90 spares prices).

Just my 2c....

Like bmw m said, tough choices......

I would stick with the E46 330d.

The only decent upgrade will be another 3.0d engine car (530d, 330d, etc) and not a 320d.

0-100 times:

e90 320d 130kW pre-lci : 8sec
e90 320d 135kW : 7.5sec
E46 330d 135kW : 8.2sec
E46 330d 150kW : 7.4sec

(all autos, we never got a 142kW 330d in SA, ours was detuned to 135kW)

Similar problem on mine just before the fan stopped working. Was a loose contact on the fan resistor, after cleaning up and reinstalling the aircon was much colder.
