Hey guys

So i had a bit of trouble with my car last week Saturday. Here's what happened:

I was about to enter a freeway and I needed to get ahead of a few cars approaching the on-ramp, so I gave it a bit of stick to get ahead. I suddenly hear this snapping sound - or a sound of something break. I hit worried me, I thought i had a blow-out or something in the suspension broke.

I pulled off into a safe area and looked around the car, under the car, etc. and found no issues...strange. I passed it off as being something on the road that I drove over. So I get in the car and take off. I feel there is something wrong - no boost...then the yellow engine light of death comes on and the car goes into limp mode. I pull off to the side of the road again and switch it off and on again - car goes out of limp mode but there is still a loss in power (no boost).

Thankfully, I was close to home so rolled the car there and parked it off...worried...very worried :(

I would have called BMW-on-call, but from my experience with them, they are a bunch of idiots, only good for bringing you a tyre in an emergency situation. I suspected it might have been turbo related, but what exactly, I had no clue - everything in the engine bay looked 100%.

So I decided to call the N54-whisperer: Twinz. I explained to him what happened and we began to debug the issue over the phone. Gosh, he knows the engine bay like the back of his hand! Soon, through his instruction, I located the charge pipe and gave it a shake...it was loose :|

We found the issue, now the fix. Twinz instructed me on how to put the pipe back and how to get to it if I needed more room to work with. He even sent me pics of where and what I need to be doing. I am fairly workshop savvy, but having those instructions helped. I discovered that the pipe was actually torn and no clamping could help...so I waited for the coming Monday and sent the car in to BMW.

No surprise, the on-call guy who came to pick the car up said it was the exhaust that was at fault, and he was pretty insistent on it. I just agreed and said "the workshop will sort it out".

The car took 4 days to fix, they replaced the charge pipe with one not like the original. I feel that the car has lost a bit of its go on the top end, it might just be in my head, but yeah...

Anyway...a very big THANK YOU to you Charles. You have helped a fellow fanatic in the time of need and I humbly appreciate it. TWINZ FTW!

Thanks Ash....it was a pleasure. I could hear you were very worried. Glad the 1M is sorted...that baby must be gorgeous to drive. The fact that your car is totally stock made it easy to track the problem.

Cheers :joy:
