Turbo testing on 320d E90

Howsit guys

So I've been in the market for a E90 320d for a while now.

So far so good, I test drove several models and I have narrowed it down to 2 models.

I've requested the FSH from BMW and checked the VIN number for accident history, and both came out clean. What I want to know is; is it necessary/ advisable to have the turbo tested independently before purchase?

I am a little bit paranoid, and with my budget I am probably going to buy a car out of motorplan. I would like to do it for peace of mind. Where do I do it, and how much does it typically cost?

Unfortunately, there is no way to really test a turbo apart from disassembling it, and I wouldn't trust anybody to do that. You can either roll the dice, or replace it now (which is also rolling the dice if you read the stories on the forum).

Other than that? is there tell tale signs to look/listen for?

Isnt it possible to run some sort of diagnostic? Sorry for the dumb questions, Ive only owned N/A cars so far...

Why don't you go with a warranty plan/cover to cover you if anything happens Or maybe save up monthly for a Turbo

Short version. After market guarantee s a waist. out of a R30 000k bil the payed R13 000.
New turbo from Garret was R9000 last year.
around R3500 for fitment

If injectors go R8k for 4

And on and on. But that was my experience. Some were lucky I wasn't.
