Turbo Feed Pipe and tappet cover

Hi All,

I had what looked like old dried oil at the bottom of the manifold, I took it to BMW and asked them to check it out and see what caused it since i had to bring it to them in any case for the door lock.

I got a call from them saying that they can see it was leaking from the top of the manifold/turbo and suspect the O-ring. but they want to replace the turbo feed pipe and install a one-way valve in the feed pipe and a new tappet cover.

I saw the it by chance and haven't had any issues with the car so im concerned that they are replacing parts but are not sure what caused the problem in the first place.

Im also concerned that the one way valve they want to install will cause the turbo to not cool down once the engine is stopped as the valve stops the oil from flowing through the turbo.

what will the tappet cover do ?

Any advise from the forum and some dealers here please

there is no smoke during a cold startup.

The turbo in your car if I am not mistaken is water cooled and oil lubed so installing a one way valve in the oil line shouldn't stop any cooling. :)

Wait for some reason I was under the impression that your car is a F30....Is it an F30 or what car is it?

I dont remember if AWB had this or not, but could one make it such that not only can you see who posted last in a forum, but also what topic that post was in?

What was posted in is more important than who posted it IMO...

I got a call from a BMW mech and he said that that one of the screws on the tappet cover didnt come out/loose and they had to get someone (helicore or something) to come out and remove the bolt.... I dont know what they did to remove the screw but i was told that they will not change the diameter of the hole, after much fighting the service manager said they retreaded it, however the mechanic said that they did not. so im getting mixed communication.

can anyone tell me how this will affect the longevity of my vehicle and would i have any issues from that bolt/ thread that was replaced ?

I have requested that BMW give me a letter stating that the changes that were made is still within specification
