Turbo Conversion

Guys, my husband is really trying to convince me to do a turbo conversion on my car. More power is always welcome but my concern is because I use my car to work everyday she is exceptionally reliable.

I start and drive and have done so for about 3years! What's your take on reliability or I suppose that's all dependent on the conversion itself?

I've always just appreciated a standard vehicle (dont scratch where it doesnt itch!) but just to consider??

for a proper conversion you are not going to get away with anything less than 100k.

RGM where charging R80k odd for a SC on a 328i about 2 years ago.

Oy Vay I still have a bond to pay!! I like the the possibility though! Joh, some of us dream to have a 10sec car! Ja whoooooshing dump valve sound has a rather orgasmic ring to it!!!

Then I think my husband is smoking his freaken socks! He's probably standing on the street when he's out working late and selling his body to finance his wife's need for a turbo!!

Best way to increase performance is stroking. But this is only advisable on a 6 cylinder engines or bigger. One of the guys in the E30 club used to have an 2.9 stroker and that thing would give just about every hot hatch pakslae.

I did one for Jughead, I took his 2.7 and increased the bore from 84mm pistons to 86mm pistons. I used new Opel Superboss pistons. Friggin strong IS!!!

Nicholas, why do you say no to stroking a 4cyl? I bored and stroked my e36 318i engine to 2044cc, it makes the same power as a stock 328i now.

I don't mean bore. If you bore your engine, the engine becomes less reliable. Just do a normal stroke with different pistons, crank shaft, con rods, ect. You'll have to chip the car too.

Also... was it actually cheaper to re-work the 4 cylinder than just installing a 328i engine??

freerider: Have a look on E30 club for more info on stroking.

I've also never heard of Stroking Kits. That's something companies like Budler Motor Sport, KSD, and i think Sav Speed can do for you.

I am no expert, I only know a bit from what I've read other people did.
