there has been much talk on the forum about massive dyno gains on the M engine,
Steve Dinan heads up the largest independant Bmw Tuning company in the world.
please read the White Paper below , as it details his findings on the Dyno gains .
i have repeatedly made comments with regards to tuners claiming big numbers , i have mentioned the tuning of the air temp senors as possible reasons for the gains.

there are a number of tuners around the world , that tune cars "on the dyno"
to take advantge of this "free dyno power"

take some time to read the article i am sure you will find it interesting
and please lets discuss this article and leave individual tuners out of this.

http://www.dinancars.com/bmw/technial-info/dynamometer-testing-and-the-modern-bmw-engine

below is a link to their software tuning for the e46 m3.
http://www.dinancars.com/store/product.php?productid=133&cat=456&page=1

they claim 5bhp max on a bone stock e46 m3

they also market different phases of sw based on the mods.
phase 2 would yield greater results once couples with an exhasut/decat.
as the ecu will need to reprogrammed to take advantage of the free flowing exhaust .

below is an article about chip tuning
http://www.dinancars.com/bmw/technial-info/dispelling-performance-software-myths
he goes on to mention how finely tuned the m ecu is from the factory.

so it looks like sw alone will not gain u a "real" 25 -30bhp
things like decat , fuel and temps all play a role to ramp up the gains .

a car modified with hardware will not be optimised , it needs sw to optimise the new setup and will show greater gains than sw only

discuss

this thread is not in refference to any particular tuner

I agree that with N/A there is not much that can be done, unless something was amiss with the car to begin with. Turbo cars are another matter altogether though.

i agree and disagree!!! In the U.K or US the cars are mapped for their fuels and air pressures, temps etc..
We get the cars here on their settings.. so adjusting it optimal for our fuels, air pressures and timing will cause reasonable gains! so on a V8 or E46 M3 its not uncommon for 20-30hp gain here in S.A..

HAHA... I've heard the term "Jealousy makes you nasty" but this is taking it to a whole new level ek se. What drives you this far? lol Classic.
Come on post some more pics of your house and your cars dude. We're impressed seriously
Do you have a life? Clearly you have a dictionary but do you use it for yourself? Boy if i got a dollar for every spelling mistake of yours...

How dare you challenge Anele-Zn???
Dont you know he's gonna run a spell check on everything you just said??
Ooooh u just caused it now lol :thumb:

as usual tashen adds nothing to this conversation.
@streetracer , we get the eurospec cars here , so unless u mapping for lower octane fuel , u shouldnt see any gains or losses.

Awww dont be like that now. Post a picture of your bathroom. I wanna see the toothbrush that cleans the mouth of anele that only utters excellence...
And while you're correcting forum user's spelling and sheet let me correct you as i just entered the conversation so you cant say as usual i add nothing to THIS CONVERSATION??
Search google for a dumbass to English translator coz you really need it.

I think what Streetracer is politely trying to explain to you is that based on our quality of fuel and weather conditions our cars are detuned accordingly via knock sensors and what what.
Local Tuners optimise the car for better performance for our climate and fuel etc
Try googling that one also. It'll be interesting i promise!

So, Dinan maps for cars at altitude does he?
Really now?

What about CA automotive? Do they map for altitude?

Honestly Anile. If Dinan could gain the same power on the dyno, do you REALLY think that they wouldn't?

And humor me this. HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN THE INCREASE IN AIRFLOW? On the road.
Does airflow not = power?

thanks , if we add higher octane fuel to europsec cars , we will make power.
everything else is mapping to reduce knock
if u run booster or 98 unleaded u will infact have great gains without having to map directly for it.
the m ecu runs very agressive timing

Anal, I have not had any beef you recently. So you I would lik you to answer question. And think carefully before you answer. Are you calling us cheats?

The car ran with pump fuel on an uncorrected dyno. There is no way to cheat the dyno. It's like ODR, the reading comes up on a screen connected to the rollers.

Steve Dinan is not all you think he is. He most certainly is not the expert. European tuners are gaining big gains on the S54 as well.

This really is pathetic the lengths you will go to to discredit us. And for what? What do you have to gain.

We will continue to gain & I will go gain power on a V8 M3 convertible this afternoon. Your posts are tiresome & make you look lame. But go ahead, there is nothing you can do to stop the rollercoaster.

Dude you wasting your time. Understand what we dealing with here. Just say xcede is kak and lets call it day. He wont give up until we admit we cheated hence the reason I made the sarcastic comment about using octane booster giving me 20kw more which i didnt show at the recent dyno coz my battery was stuffed. Its pointless! You see how dumb he is, he even went and created a new thread as he couldnt see i was being sarcastic lol

@sherwin , where did i mention exede?
read into what u like but i havent mentioned any tuners in this thread , if u feel it apply's to you then my all means !

@biofreak , tuners are claiming these gains at reef and coast
airflow doesnt always show the whole story as it doesnt correlate to g=kw
increased airflow is more of a guide than an exact power measure in my opinion.

I am sure Steve is no expert , Bmw are in the business of accrediting morons.
his reputation and products speak for themselves.

this is an open discussion about steve's findings
they seem to echo my suspicions , address the content of his articles by all means , as that is what we are discussing

http://www.giacusa.com/programs.php?mpid=544
above is a link to the giac site , they claim between 10bhp on a stock e92 m3 and upto 20bhp with intake and exhaust.

they currently hold the record for the fastest e92 m3 in the world
so i would say they are a safe bet , there tuning is also greatly repsected around the world.

makes you wonder how some tuners manage to get 24kw out of these m cars with 0 hardware mods.

heres a european chip tuner
http://www.activeautowerke.com/viewproduct.aspx?id=Product85
11kw only on a v8 m3
