Trouble shooting help needed for E90

Hi All

I am hoping someone would be as kind as to help with trouble shooting with my car.
I have a 2010 3201 E90 (new shape)
car is our of warranty, but recently replaced parts:
both vanos units, timing chain and cam shaft sensor.
current mileage is 175k.

The car starts fine, drives fine, but every now and then when I slow down to stop, it hesitates a little, and when I pull away it may cut out completely, and will have to restart the car.

I have cleaned out the MAF sensor, but besides the small chance of an air leak, I'm thinking it may be a faulty coil/ spark plug that's giving the issues.

Has anyone had something similar happen to them?

Thanks.

Hi OP,

Before you start forking money at the problem maybe get it diagnose with error codes, will this be possible?

There is inlet and exhaust solenoids that can cause this problem too, except what you have mentioned regarding the spark plugs and coils. Why did you clean the maf sensor if we may ask? There is a possibility that it could have been damaged in the process, what did you use to clean the maf sensor.

But OP, get the diagnostics reading and then take it from there, cause you are looking at solenoids, plugs, coils, maf etc for this problem. It does seem that the fuel / air is impacted here so this is probably the right direction.

HI Lizzard

I will be taking the car in on Friday for a check up.
at the moment, there have been no fault codes that I am aware of, but will probably find out on Friday. (besides the ones before having the previous mentioned parts replaced)

The car was intermittently cutting out before I cleaned the MAF sensor, and after, the car was running like a dream, this morning it all started again :(

I also used the CRC brand MAF cleaner spray (there was some gunk that came off after the cleaning, so I don't think the unit was damaged.

I'll post the codes as soon as I get them, if any.

I got a code reader, am in randburg and stay in lenz if you want me to try and read it for you,

When plugs or coils start to fail, they misfire under load. Once they have failed, they misfire at idle already. If you don't have these symptoms, as said before, don't throw money at these.
Valvetronic could be the problem, but you would normally experience poor performance as well.
I would look at the PCV valve, but for some odd reason, I can't find your PCV valve in my ETK. I can find it on the N46 (E90), but I can't find it on the N46N (E90EC1), the facelift.
