My long awaited e46 M arrived 2 weeks ago :excited:, I now need to transfer the M/P from the previous owner to me, does anyone know how to get it done cheaper than R1200? :mmm:

Thanks

According to BMW there is a 5 point check and transfer, cost ranging from R1200 - R1600 depending on the dealer :cursin:. Hoping someone on this forum knows a way to lower this cost or elminate the cost. :mmm:

I never paid for my transfer. Didn't know you had to.
Guess I lucky then, but then again BMW almost paid me to take the car. Fitted 4 new Turanzas, a towbar and some IOU's for various (non mechanical) items. :) :pimp:

yup, I had to pay for it too. however, there is like a million point check they do, and they have to fix everything before they will transfer it over, so it is really worth it.

when I got my car, to do the transfer invloved changing all the shocks, bushings, and the entire sunroof because it would occasionally stick. totally worth the -+R1500

BMW wanted to charge me to do the transfer and I told them that was one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard. Transfer what, a name, they already made their money from the original owner who bought the car.

So at the end of the day when I went to pick my car up from them, they said its fine, I dont have to pay for the transfer anymore.

So maybe, just give the "stealer" a hard time about it and then they wont charge.

But maybe for an "M" car its different, I dont know.

If I remember right, they wanted to charge me R1000, 2 years ago.

If you buy the (used) car from the dealer, they cover the cost.
If you buy the car privately, then the cost to transfer the motorplan is for you.....

My car was transfer to my name with no cost as far as I know, but I bought my car at Autobahn BMW in Isando. As the dealer to transfer it to your name on their cost.

You could go to the dealer where the car was on regular service and ask them to do it because they know the car....

Dealers usually argue "because the car has not been serviced by them"... so they need to check!

Its worth a try

It ranges from dealer to dealer. Think the cheapest I found when I looked was about R600 or so at Autobahn BMW in JHB. Was about 3 months ago so not 100% sure, but just phone around. It’s ridiculous how the prices vary.
