Tools for DIY's

This is maybe a long shot.
What tools (most used ones) would one need to perform DIY's.
By DIY I mean some of the stuff a person can safely do, like oil change, brakes etc.
Where is the best place (ito availability, price & quality) to get these tools.
Only tools I have is the ones I acquired over the years, bit by bit.
Also some sizes of spanners are not so readily available, like 16 spanner. It always jumps from 15 to 17 when you want to buy a set.
And torx screwdrivers and L-Keys (or is it Allen keys?)
Last lot I needed, I just went to cash converters and cash crusaders.

I got a set of Mastercraft spanners & a 1/4" drive socket set.. and some random screw drivers.. and pliers etc..

and then my dad has a Gedore 1/2" drive socket set that helps as well..

A set of allen keys & torx keys is also needed

also a set of scrap cloths and rubber gloves comes in handy..

and obviously, hammer, duct tape, cable ties, Q20...

Go to Macro for mastercraft & gedore tools.. They semi pricey but lifetime warranty

Adendorfs frikken ROCKS for tools... by a long shot.

Ok, most of it is cheap Chinese crap, but if you are going in knowing that, and you need the odd thing that you will use 3 times a year (i purchased an airbrush for like R250 the other day) Adendorfs rock.

Also... Mastercraft is serious value for money I think.

Stuff that you need, sockets/spanners, extensions, torx bits, T-Handle screw drivers and T-Handle torx bits....

The wierd'r your collection, the more jobs you can tackle, cause sometimes a tool is just too long, or too short to get the required torque onto it, ect..

You NEED a compressor, and if you have the $$$, buy a compressor with an air wrench..... they are wow..

You also NEED a decent LED headlamp, they are expensive at over R500 for a nice one, but if you look after it, you keep it for years.

you NEED a crawler, and a 3 ton jack, oh and.... I can carry on for a while here, I think you get the picture :)

Actually, the only tool you need is www.bmwfanatics.co.za & make friends :)

Then you just go to their place, & get them to "help" you do a job...

I usually pay with a coke & some Chips to snack on & I supply my own parts

:)

Hell man, I'm not planning to setup a workshop. Where am I gonna store all that tools. I probably gonna end up with tools inside and car outside. No way do I park my car outside, that's why I have a garage.:thumbdo:

I have a lead-light and I think you get those cheapie headlamps for about R60. Crawler and jack-stands is probably needed.
If you do not use it often, I guess the cheaper ones will do just fine.
Almost forgot about torque wrench and a moerse 34 socket for the oil filter.

Don't need to be the super expensive kind. It's just to have something else hold the car up other than just the jack.

And naturally the following... :)

They also say you only need 2 tools..

1) Duct Tape
2) Q20

Use Duct tape when the problem moves & it should not
Use Q20 when the problem is stuck but should move
