Took an E39 M5 for a spin

I have always wanted to experience an M5, so when I drove past a used car dealership yesterday and saw that they had one in stock, I decided to take a look. It was a 2001 mystic blue with black interior, in perfect condition. I told the salesman I was considering getting an M5 (which was not a complete lie :mmm: ), and asked for a test drive.

I slowly drove out the door and around the block. Then once the engine warmed up, I floored it. :excited: The traction control light flickered through all of first gear, and well into second. Then I decided to lift off, as I didn't want to upset the salesman and I was over 80km/h already. I then drove out of the town, to feel what it can do on the open road. No matter what speed I was doing, or in what gear, flooring the throttle would generate a massive burst of acceleration.:excited:

And then there's the noise. Although it is very subdued due to the stock exhaust (a less restrictive one would do wonders), the sound at 7,000rpm is incredible.

When I returned to the dealership I was seriously considering buying the car. However, it has more than 175,000km on the clock, and although it's been looked after, there are some problems (such as the rear view mirror bubbling, dead pixels on the dash display). And they wanted R200k for it, which in my opinion is pretty crazy.

So now I am seriously looking for a perfect M5. I've always wanted one, NOW I NEED ONE!!! :)

But so does your wife...and your bank manager...

Haha luckily I'm not married yet. And these cars are becoming almost affordable now. If I choose to stop eating I can afford it...

Sometimes its just better to live in sin! Otherwise, sell the wife to the bank manager! At least your car wont let you down!

You know what is seriously scary is when you have both husband and wife that shares the same passion for fast cars, so when the time comes for one of them to pull the brakes and say, "Hey, we need to feed ourselves and the kids, we cannot afford this!" its a difficult one! We live on the breadline......Nice Beemers, and stuff but no food! Hmm thats a nice way of keeping slim!

Bru all I can tell you is, go out and buy yourself one! When you get married all of the fun stuff ends! When that woman walks down the isle with you and she's smiling at you, do you know what she is thinking?? "This is the beginning of the end of your B-Jobs bru, I have nailed you now!" he he he he

that's true -looks like most of us are in the same boat-

like all said -do what ya want now

but maybe keep the budget open for a little runner or a suprise

when the time comes ,a sacrifice may be in order for a pozie or 2nd cab

or something they think of to make you get rid of her -as they will want

that place -( that's what they think -hehe)

i had to learn the hard way -

sacrificed me e36 m3 and evo 2 is after 7 months of signing the ballet
:cursin::cursin::cursin::cursin::cursin::cursin::cursin::cursin:

damn -:bawling:

Yeah come to think of it. I could afford to buy myself a brand new top of the range vehicle at the time when I was single. Now I can only afford an older vehicle.

All I can say is, there aint no sacrificing of my e36, not right now anyway. My kids fit in just fine! The Gti Golf is the family car!

A word of advice though, its not always possible, but marry a woman who shares the same passions you do so that she will understand your reasoning when it comes to certain "have-to-haves".

My gf loves to ride shotgun when I drift, so now I say im buying parts so I can drift better.
Oh and I made it very clear to her that I will rather die than sell my cars. Hell, my love for modding cars stretched onto her car too, too bad its a citigolf...
She also likes to learn about car stuff, watches Top Gear with me too...

Back to the M5, my dad got on from Aucor auctions, it was a silverstone blue 2000 M5. Man it was a beast! One problem, it had a thirst for oil, and that TXT oil that BMW recommend for the m5 was at that time was R150 a litre. The problem got worse when the rings on no7 cyl collapsed. Good thing my dad took a motor engine insurance fund. The engine was repaired but still used oil, my dad soon traded it in because he hit a brick which broke a wheel, there is no spare on the m5 and he was stuck at night next to a squatter camp...I went to his rescue with another wheel.
He traded the m5 for a 2001 540i auto, didn't like it so he gave it to my mom. He then got a e60 545i auto, doesn't like it, still drives his 1991 m5 almost everyday.

So besides the lack of a spare and the thirst for oil, it was BOSS!!! I so want the m5 engine and drivetrain in my e36!!!!
