Do our E46s Speedometers mark a change in mileage with a dot next to the numbers?
If you change either the dash, EWS or LCM with that of another car then yes, it'll throw up a tamper dot. But it's relatively easy to prevent this from happening if you are the unscrupulous sort, while giving the car a haircut at the same time.
I'm really sorry to see this happen; I see such practices all the time and there's very little that upsets me more than seeing this illegal practice taking place.
Good luck dude, I hope you come to some sort of resolution hey.
I had read about the tamper dot and was a bit surprised that it isn't that hard to get around. In this case, I really don't know if this is just an unlucky example of a correct miles car that has been totally neglected versus one with someone fishy going on. But it was totally misrepresented in the sale.

Dude, a crime was perpetrated here, start the process of getting your money back ASAP.
Not only is the millage NOT 65,000km, but the car also appears to have been rebuilt during a panel beater's training program.
Working on it. Ironically, the South African CPA gives me a much better chance of doing that, than a sale in the US. In the US it is voetstoets for all private sales. The CPA in South Africa says the seller is responsible for all undisclosed defects. Of course being right and getting some resolution are 2 different things entirely!
In the end the most frustrating part of the whole deal, is that I found this forum after the purchase. I have seen 2 excellent options come up for sale while I have been messing around trying to figure out the true story on this car. I kept hoping it was just something minor that could be easily sorted but it just kept getting worse.
I am hoping that I can get the deal reversed and then come back looking for a great E46 M3 or M-coupe... both of which have come through this forum in the last month.
I have learned a lot this go round. No mistakes next time!
Appreciate all the help and support from this forum.
