The M3 is newer, handles better, looks better, has a gearbox that your can't even compare to the old SMG, is better on fuel, way more nimble/lively in your hands and is way ahead in technology.
Nothing wrong with the M5 is an awesome car but the M3 makes more sense at this time.
As for the M3 feeling like a chico or Tata, have any M5 owners tired a decently modded NA M3? It's not a pretty sight.
