Good day guys
I am golf GTI mk7 owner but now it's time to get something for family drives and long distance kinda car but with a bit more room but I still want the GTI grunt and power I soo looking at X5 or X3 is one of my options but I want to buy 2nd hand F15 model diesel engine 3.0 or 2.0L Il narrow down options with more info I gather I have seen alot of YouTube videos but YouTube never has information I need like local feed back the costs, extending my warranty (in house bmw or do external) what is more likely to break alot on these cars am not worried about resell value I tend to keep my cars once done paying am not selling the golf either. Thank

Sadly, a 20d is not going to come anywhere close to a GTI in performance. Rather go for the 30d, but you will need to change your driving style slightly when driving an SUV.

I would say rather go for a 530d instead of an X model. It has loads of space and real handling prowess.

I was also going to ask whether there is a specific reason you want an SUV over a sedan?

As MR_Y said, power similar to the GTI you want the 30d. Great cars, both the 20d and 30d are very reliable engines.
X5 I feel is quite a large vehicle, maintenance will be a bit more than an X3 - larger tyres, air suspension etc. The X3 which is still a rather large vehicle will likely be a bit most cost effective in terms of maintenance and size wise may be perfect for your needs.

Best is to go and test drive both, and then narrow it down. Then see whether you want the standard or M-sport model (coming from a GTI, the M-sport may be preferable).
X3 30d M-sport - winner for sure if you're after an SUV.

Alternatively, a 3 series or 5 series is a lovely car and still a very suitable family vehicle.

Am looking for family car and still keep both Hatches in the yard. I just want something available for long distance and can handle abit of gravel when needed to soo I think 3.0 engine is sounding good il keep searching online for more information on YouTube I keep seeing air suspension needs to be changed along with rear brakes alot I haven't seen horrific stories on engine breakdowns yet

I stand to be corrected, but I believe the X3 typically does not come with air suspension. The X5 does though.
So maintenance wise, something to consider and weigh up if you're considering an X3 or X5.

The 20d and 30d engines are fantastic, unlikely you will experience many issues (if any). Do the maintenance when required, remove the DPF when the mileage climbs or the car is out of motorplan. Do the gearbox oil change when it's due etc.
