Timing chain problems on 2l diesel

Was there a problem with certain year model 2l diesel motors in regards to timing chains stretching/breaking? And if so, was it only on the twin turbo 2l diesels or on the standard single turbo motor as well?

I also read about many instances of this happening on the N47 motor (facelift model) but never of a single case in SA,

Might be that the Americans got a different motor than we did.

The N47 is superb and very reliable. Even the M47 is if you do all of the required preventative maintenance

Anything pre 2010/2011 could be at risk, which are the A and B versions of the engine. It was fixed on the C version.

Thanks for the replies. Am i right in assuming the 2011 on 2l diesel X3 is fine and one should not worry about timing chain issues?
